HI! Relocating to NM

Hi Everyone!

How are you? I wanted to introduce myself because there is a very strong possibility that I will be relocating to NM in the coming months. I am incredibly nervous about packing up and starting over. I am hoping to be able to meet some new close girl friends.

If anyone can give any advice about things I would greatly appreciate it. I am an RN and will be working at Presbyterian Hospital in ABQ. From the East Coast. 29 years old, married for 2 years. no kids. a dog.

Looking forward to getting to know people. I've visited NM twice. Sante Fe to be exact. I have a sister in law and brother in law who live there and work in Los Alamos.

Re: HI! Relocating to NM

  • Welcome to the board, and (almost) to New Mexico!!  Big Smile  N.M. is definitely different than the east coast, so you'll have some adjusting, but I think you'll like it here.

Flame (another N.M. nestie) is very knowledgeable about the state, and I'm sure she can answer any questions you may have about sight-seeing, weather, travel, etc.

I think you'll enjoy living here.

  • Thank you Katy! I am a mix of emotions right now. I've visited NM twice in the past 4 years and I love all the sight-seeing and hiking, etc.

Any thoughts on NM as a place to live would be great! Which areas are better to live in than others? Can anyone recommend a good realtor? I would like to start communicating with one as soon as possible. I would rather buy a house than to rent. I am so sick of renting.

  • Welcome  :)  I think that you will like it here, it is pretty laid back, but there is plenty to do.  I'm up in Los Alamos so don't have much info to share on Abq, but I will refer you to a previous post by Flame that I bet will help!  post

  • Welcome!  I'm way down south in NM, so I would definitely refer to the info from Flame, she knows her stuff ;-)  I love NM, especially the weather!  It does get pretty hot in the summer, but it makes for a perfect pool/lake visit.  Good luck with the move!
  • Thank you everyone for the responses! I greatly appreciate it! I am definitely looking forward to it. I have started looking at houses on line and am trying to contact a couple realtors. I hope that I will be able to find a nice house on my budget.

I will be frequenting the boards! Maybe one of these days I'll be at one of those get togethers! haha

I am definitely looking forward to all the hiking, the weather, and I love the architecture!  Trying to look at the positive instead of being sad and scared of leaving friends and family. Its so much harder to make friends when you are older.

    Welcome RN!!!

Where on the east coast are you from? I'm a trabsplanted easterner myself (South Carolina & Boston Metro).

I pretty much summed up my take on NM in the post that Diamond  linked to.

But I wanted to chime in a welcome.

Oh, and I live really close ot the UNM-area Pres.  So if that will be your hospital, I can give you low-down on the neighborhood you'll be working in.

  • Congratulations and welcome to NM! I just moved here as well. I'm originally from the East Coast (Southern NH to be exact) and then moved to Baton Rouge, Louisiana. I love NM so far and I'd couldn't be happier if Las Cruces ended up being our "forever" home :)
