Burger contest recipes?

My DH and I are in a burger making contest at our friends house on the 4th.  Any of you ladies have any good secrets/recipes for making a winning burger??

Re: Burger contest recipes?

  • Are the patties pre-formed?  Or are you making them?  If you are forming them yourself, put in some BBQ sauce, salt, pepper, and onion flakes.  Then mix it up and let it sit for 3-4 hours so the meat absorbs the flavor.  Then when you form them and have them on the grill put some Montreal Steak Seasoning on them while they are cooking.  So so good!

If they are pre-formed already, brush on BBQ sauce while they are cooking and add the Montreal seasoning.  My best advice would be to form them yourself :)  Have fun!

  • I always put minced garlic and worchestershire sauce in my hamburger and mush it all together before I form the patties. Along with spices - I second the steak seasoning, that's what I use.
  • I always put a packet of ranch dressing mix in with my hamburger meat (about 2 lbs).  Then when you make the burger put on cheddar cheese, bacon, and ranch dressing instead of Mayo.  If DH knew I was putting that much ranch on his burgers he'd hate it, but because he doesn't know, he thinks they're delicious!
  • I made some buffalo turkey burgers last week and DH raved about them:

    ground turkey

    chopped onion

    Minced garlic

    chopped red pepper

    pepper and cayenne pepper

    Frank's Red Hot

(thought about adding some of the Ranch dry seasoning)

grill them along side a pepper slice and then add the pepper slice - let a piece of pepper jack cheese melt over the pepper slice.

  • **and some whorchestershire.
  • I make a mean turkey burger with mozzarella cheese on the inside.  You bite into it and the middle is all melty and cheesy.  Love them!

    That sounds soo good!

Chrissy, did you put in buffalo or just turkey?  The reason I ask is because my Dad's gone buffalo hunting & we have a ton of meat, but the burger is so lean that it falls apart when we make burgers, so I was wondering if the turkey held it together better. Smile  That and you didn't specifically list buffalo Wink

  • I think she meant "Buffalo" in the sense of the flavoring - like buffalo chicken wings. Hence the Franks Red Hot. Smile

Turkey Meat - Buffalo flavoring.  They are fabulous!  We heat a lot of 99% lean ground turkey and chicken instead of beef.

  • Ooops :)  I thought you meant buffalo burger.  The flavoring sounds good, I'll have to look for the hot sauce.

  • check out the NYTimes meatloaf burger recipe - it's soooo good.

  • This may sound weird, but putting water in your hamburger along with worchestershire, onion and garlic is really yummy! Water makes it really moist!
