I've heard alot of people on here periodically complain/vent that they feel taken advantage of or they feel like people are underappreciative of what they do for them. My advice usually is not to do something if you expect a certain reaction or thanks, cause you rarely get it. It's time for me to take my own advice.
I had "called" Christmas this year. I figured that we'd be in the new house, and we'd all (both fams) get together for *one* big meal and prezzies at our place. Well, I have decided that I am not gonna do it. I am just so tired of always being the one to have to plan stuff, and sacrifice my time, energy, and money for a bunch of people who don't appreciate it and to whom it really doesn't seem to matter.
So, I have decided to cancel Christmas at my place. DH and I will go away somewhere nice and sunny and truly enjoy our holiday! I feel like a huge weight has been lifted off of me. Ahhhhhhhhhh!
Re: I'm cancelling Christmas
I wish Christmas with my inlaws could be cancelled. I appreciate all they do, but they spend way too much money on presents. Then we feel obligated to spend a lot of money too. We cannot afford to spend $100/person when there are 9 ppl on that side of the family and then we still need to spend money on my side. But if we don't spend a lot, we look like a$$e$.
Good for you for cancelling, I wish I had balls like you!
Good for you. We're going to do something similar. Christmas is always DRAMA at ILs and this year my one SIL (not the highest drama but drama none the less) is due Boxing Day and thus we'll probably not be getting together that close to Christmas day.
So my parents have offered to take us somewhere for Christmas this year and we have graciously accepted.
My dream is to one day be able to do this as well without having to hear all the consequences of my actions.
You are my hero!
