Recommendations for 21st BDay?

Hello ladies!

I'm an old knottie that usually posted on May 08 and DC boards but I live in NYC and my BIL is bringing his girlfriend up this weekend for the 4th of July.  She's turning 21 over the weekend (he's 22), and wants to go out on the town to celebrate.

Do you guys know of any good bars/lounges that we should take her to?

Re: Recommendations for 21st BDay?

  • Sounds like you need a bar crawl to help her celebrate.  I think the best area for this is either the West Village, East Village, or a combination of both.  Let me know if you want the names of some specific bars.
  • I think those areas are perfect!  Any specific bars you'd recommend?

  • i think starting at the bubble lounge in tribeca or flute (near union square) would be a nice way to kick off a 21st birthday. if you go on her actual birthday, the bubble lounge will give you a free glass of champagne. they have excellent cocktails in addition to champagne.?

dublin 6 (west village) and marshall stack (lower east side) both have excellent bar snacks and marshall stack has some fantastic beer on tap.

    i think amy's idea for a bar/pub crawl is a great one - "sightseeing" and drinking ?

  • Keeping in mind that this is for someone who is young and from OOT, here are some suggestions.  All have something a little different about them or are somewhat legendary in status.  P.S. I have definitely done my time in many of these establishments. ;)

    East Village

    7B

    Ace Bar

    Angels & Kings

    Beauty Bar

    Doc Hollidays

    The Library

    McSorley's

P.S. For food along the way: Veselka, the pizza place on Ave A and between E 6th and 7th Sts (I think), Crif Dogs.

    Greenwich/Noho/West Village

    Bleecker St Bar

    Down the Hatch

    Fat Black Pussycat

    Peculiar Pub

Puck Fair (just south of Houston, but worth the trip across the street)

    Tom & Jerry's

    Tortilla Flats

  • I love how Joanna's suggestions are all fairly classy.  And mine are just klassy.  Ha ha.  Guess you can chalk it up to me being a more divey bar kind of gal.
  • thanks guys!  i def think i can mix up the mix of Classy and Klassy hahaha. she's a youngin' from the country so i think a little bit of both is gonna make her day!

  • amy, i generally a very klassy girl but sometimes i like to be classy. i think mixing classy and klassy is the best way to celebrate a 21st birthday!?

  • 315bride -- i was going to make the same suggestions! i'm all about the divey village spots.

four-faced liar in west village is a fun bar, and they keep board games around to play. we always grab a pack of trivial pursuit cards and have the best time!

I am seeing the possibility of this as a future GTG, even though I am nowhere close to 21... hee hee.
