Inner Harbor for 4th of July

DH and I want to go to the Inner Harbor for the 4th of July activities.  We haven't been there in a while, and I can imagine we don't want to park in the Harbor area that day.  I've never taken the Light Rail before, but it looks like you can park at Hunt Valley and ride into the Harbor.  Anyone have any experience with the Light Rail?  Or the 4th of July in Baltimore?

PS - I'm not brave enough to post on the Baltimore Board...that's out of my Central PA Nest comfort-zone. :o)

TIA

Re: Inner Harbor for 4th of July

  • Don't worry, the Baltimore board is nice.

I haven't taken the light rail before.  The Inner Harbor can be very busy during the holiday, but you could always park in a different garage, a little further out from the Harbor and just take a short cab (or bus) ride over to the Harbor if you didn't want to walk.  Most people will try to park as close as possible so if you are willing to go a little bit further away, you should be better off.

If you are going to have dinner down there, you might want to consider Little Italy (maybe Amicci's or something in Fells Point) to avoid the crowds but still have a wonderful dinner.

  • I've done the Light Rail from Hunt Valley before (awhile ago) to go to an Orioles game and it was very easy and convenient.  I would just look online to make sure you have the right amount of cash for the Light Rail since its just those automated machines if I remember correctly.

Thanks for the confidence boost on using the Light Rail.  I'm going to call today and make sure they are following the Saturday schedule instead of the Holiday schedule...since it could technically be either.

  • DH just got an e-mail from Spirit Cruises (a dinner cruise that we did back in April) and they are having a special dinner cruise on the 4th where it go right to the fireworks... it is $99 a person and I think that includes the "open bar package" but am not sure.... If you sign up for their e-mail you can get 15% off.  We had a great time on it back in April... I know that there is another nestie that used this company and also enjoyed it.  If you want more information let me know and I can forward you the e-mail.  Have fun!
  • I used to ride the Light Rail all the time when my friends & I first got our drivers license (and were scared to drive in the city, lol). Its really no big deal. I would just double check the hours and the cost. See if they still offer a ride all day, if so its worth the hassle of keeping track of the paper card.

As far as Baltimore on the 4th, I have never done it myself, but I have heard that it is super crowded so I would be prepared to have people everywhere.

  • My DH lived down in Baltimore when he was going to grad school and we used the light rail ALL THE TIME to go down to Inner Harbor.  It's very easy to use...highly recommend using it.

I saw it's only $3.50 per person to ride all day, which I thought was great.

  • I haven't been to the Inner Harbor for the 4th since I was a kid but we take Light Rail to go to Orioles and Ravens games.  It's super easy and inexpensive (under $5 round trip if I remember correctly).  It's such a hassle (not when it's even a holiday) and expensive to park downtown so Light Rail is the way to go!  Have fun!

  • Here's what I found out today:

Light Rail is running on a modified Sunday Schedule.  Last trains depart at 11pm.  The $3.50 is for all day on any of the Mass Transit (Metro, Light Rail, Bus) so it's a really great deal!

    I'm really excited now :o)
