Any experience with Turner Kia?

Hi ladies...

DH and I went to Freedom Toyota last night and didn't have the most pleasant experience...

Nevertheless, we are heading out tonight to look for a new car and we are thinking of going to Turner Kia on Chambers Hill Road - Just wondering if anyone had any experience with this dealership and/or owning a Kia. We are thinking about getting a small-mid size SUV and the Kia Sportage looks pretty nice.

Any input would be appreciated! Even though I live locally, I don't post here often - however, I know you ladies are very knowledgeable!

Thanks!

Re: Any experience with Turner Kia?

  • I hope I caught you in time.
I do not have any experience with Turner KIA but! DH has worked on KIA. I'm not just tooting his horn when I say he knows everything there is to know about cars though he can talk to you on the phone without having to hear the car and tell you what is wrong with it, but when he worked for KIA it was the worst job he ever had.
He has come home with stories that some of the KIA's that would come in would stop running, not run out of gas, just would decide it didn't want to run anymore and leave people stranded right in the lane of traffic.
He's had some where they come off the truck, brand new, and when he PDI's them (basically giving them the "okay to be sold" ) he's had some that were complete junk, engines not put together with the right pieces, paint already chipping, cars already rusting.
When he worked on Chryslers and other vehicles, he would always recommend just about any make or model but he said that when he worked for KIA he wouldn't then and still wouldn't recommend a KIA to anybody.
I can tell you the list goes on and on, if you'd invest in one look foward to many trips to the Tech.

I don't know if other people have had good experiences....I'm sure that there has to be at least 1 KIA running well, but of the 2 years DH worked on them he's seen many people (the same people) dozens of times.
I'm just saying what DH has experienced while working on them.
  • I've known 2 people who had Kia Sephia's and they were both very un-reliable cars.  One of them got into an accident with hers and had tons of problems afterwards because the car could just not be repaired right and it was basically unsafe.  The other person was threatening to get a lawyer and go after Kia under the Lemon Law because hers was constantly back in the dealership.
  • Thanks, ladies! We went to look at a Kia last night and found that we just weren't that impressed by the vehicles. Their was a definite lack of "quality" - for instance, the BRAND NEW (2 tenths of a mile driven on it) Sportage that we test drove had a rattling sound coming from under the hood the minute I turned the ignition - we were told it just had to be 'warmed up" - DH and I knew that seemed a bit unrealistic, so we ended up leaving.

    Thanks again for your help!

  • Check out Hyundai. I love my accent. 90k on a 2002 and its still going, not bad for a car that cost 10k new.
  • Before we got married, DH had an '01 Kia Spectra hatchback (he bought it near Philly).  He kept up maintenance (oil chages every 3K miles, etc.) but he beat the crap out of that car and that thing ran for miles and got great gas mileage.  It was comfy or frilly, but holy heck, it took a beating.  Even after his friend wrecked it (put it into an embankment) it still ran!
  • I know everyone has different experiences and that Hyundai bought Kia in 98 but I love my Hyundai too - I have an 06 Sonata.

If you do decide to consider a Hyundai please do NOT visit Harrisburg Hyundai.  I had the worst experience there with their salesmen pretty much calling me a liar, ignoring me, talking to directly to my DH (I'M the one buying the car buddy!) and then calling me every other day for 3 weeks following our visit asking why I wasn't buying from them.  It may be a drive but I had a fantastic experience at Lancaster Hyundai and would highly recommend their sales dept (for service I go to Frysinger bc I don't like the service manager Beth at Lancaster Hyundai).  If you go there ask for Jeff Christman - he's the sales manager and will put you in good hands.  They treated me like family there and it was much appreciated.

  • If you are really interested in Toyota, I cannot say enough good things about Bobby Rahal.  I have bought 2 cars from them and I will buy from them again.  The dealership is excellent, I have worked with one saleman and he is on the Lexus side now, but since I'm a return customer he continues to get my sale.

The service department is second to none and they stand behind their products.  Just another option.

  • I agree, I love Bobby Rahal Toyota so much that I still bring my car back from MD to get it serviced there.  They are great to work with.

  • DH and I had a bad experience at Freedom, too.  But we had a GREAT experience at Faulkner Toyota on Paxton St.
