I know I don't post here and I don't know you from Adam, but I just have to tell you that I'm so sorry this happened to you. Unfortunately, I've been there. It wasn't on the bump, but a different message board and it wasn't my husband who was emailed - it was my boss - and I was fired over it. Because I had posted on company time and because some batsh!t crazy person was able to identify my employer (by literally piecing together information from hundreds and hundreds of posts where I never gave an actual name... just an industry... and later on a city... and then a reference to Starbuck's across the street, and so and so forth - they sussed it out...), they let me go.

It was devistating and mortifying and infuriating and I'm so sorry that you're going through this. People don't realize what happens when they start messing around with someone's real life - and the resulting consequences aren't part of a silly game or "snark". It's dangerous and hopefully someday there will be a legal consequence to this kind of cyber bullying.

Try not to let it consume you - good luck and take care....

Did you see this one?! How sad!! It really makes me second guess my internet usage, that's for sure!

  • Wow. I guess its easy to forget how exposed we are on the internet. Scary.

  • What makes someone SO crazy that they decided to take the time to figure out where another poster works/lives and their contact info? That is beyond nuts.

I heard about this poor girl!

I "Internet stalked" a nestie once, to show her that she needed to change her SN and private info. She didn't think that it was a big deal, so I found her DH's myspace and got their wedding photos, googled her and her DH's last name and got her address and phone number and where they worked! She FINALLY understood and changed her SN! So it all worked, but OMG! the ENTIRE world is on the internet, protect yourself!

Oh, wow. That's pretty crazy. What was her SN? Her full name or something?

  • Man!?

This is the reason my FB account is not my full real name (I excluded a few letters from my last name)!?

Also, if people know your first & last name, it's so easy for them to find you on sites like: www.whitepages.com ?That's how that guy that's bothering me right now found me last time and was able to send me something. =(?

  • Kristy- Her SN was like Mrs.Garnder and in her bio she had like "Allison and Chuck" and that was enough.

Also- her cousin or sister was on the nest too, and SHE also had a SN that revealed too much and the more information available, the easier it was.

  • This is why I have such a problem with SIL posting my private family pictures on her public fb! She has her whole life (name, employer, her church, etc) and every moment of her daughter's life, on public display and now she's exposing my daughter. My page is private, even people who search for me can't see my default picture unless I add them, AND I only add people I know.
