Rp from babies 6-12-refusing to eat
My 10 month old DS is refusing to eat. It started a few weeks ago when
he refused the breast. Ok, we switched to formula. Then he stopped
eating veggies, then he went down to toast, yogurt and banana. Now its
just yogurt. Sometimes I can sneak cereal mixed with yogurt, but he
will not take anything. What do I do?
Someone suggested it could be from teething or sickness. (He's getting a tooth and has a cough.) How long do I let it go on before taking him to the dr?
Re: Rp from babies 6-12-refusing to eat
He's still eating formula, though? If he's eating a healthy amount of formula I'd let it go- my son didn't eat hardly anything for about a month while he was battling a wicked cold (the doc actually thought it might be viral bronchitis). Because he was still breastfeeding, and consuming a lot of breastmilk, I wasn't overly concerned because I knew he was still meeting his nutritional needs through breastmilk, and that's the most important thing.
If your son is taking well to formula, he could just be sick, or teething, or whatever. If, however, his lack of appetite stretches to include formula then I would definitely take him to the doctor asap.
DS would always do this when he was teething. His pedi told me to continue giving him tylenol(as needed for the pain) and not to worry about his lack of eating as long as he was still having wet diapers. He also recommended pediolyte popsicils during those weeks.
IMO, I have never felt comfortable about letting issues like that go on for long periods of time. I think that if he does start eating regularly again in 1 or 1.5 weeks then I would have him assessed by the Dr.
