Hello

DH and I are currently living in Shippensburg, as we both recently graduated from Shippensburg University. However, we are anxious to move. We are looking to rent at first, and are beginning to apply for jobs around the area. The three areas we are most interested in are Hagerstown, MD, Hanover/York, and Chambersburg. Any thoughts or advice? Thanks!
Re: Area advice please
I live in Hanover. Its nice there or at least I like it, lol. There really isn't a whole lot to do there night life wise and most of the people commute out for work so I dont know how easy it will be to find a job in town thats not retail. Its only about a half hour from York though.
I guess it all depends on what you are looking for, a quieter country setting or a busier city setting.
Hi there from another fellow Ship grad... Honestly, with the economy the way it is, I would first consider jobs before worrying about where to move. Hagerstown is a nice area, and I actually have a few coworkers who live there and love it, but Maryland's COL is considerably higher than Pennsylvania's, which is something you may want to keep in mind. York has various areas to it, and there's quite a few nesties on this board that live in the York area, so I'm sure they can offer up some advice there. We live in Gettysburg, so we're pretty much smack in the middle of the areas you mentioned... I have plenty of thoughts on the areas, but without knowing more specifics on what you're looking to find out, it's hard to narrow things down and not write a book in response. Rentals can be found anywhere, although Hanover could be more difficult, as it is a smaller town.
Any particulars that you want to know so perhaps we can give you better answers?
... every single day of forever.
My ILs live in Hanover and DH grew up there. He loved growing up there and I love visiting there. When we move again we are considering moving there, or back to Lancaster, or just staying around here but in a bigger house (not for a while since we just moved here a year ago). Honestly, I like living in York, but the malls suck. The COL isn't too bad in both York and Hanover area. I don't know about Hagarstown or Chambersburg.
My advice to you, if you can, is get a job and then move where you get a job since you are sending out apps to all of those locations. It would be a lot easier than getting a job offer after you buy a house and the job is a big commute.
GL!
