This whole yard/fence/driveway business is so new to me. We don't have to worry about any of it at our condo! lol So I'm looking online for vinyl fencing (we'd prefer to have a wood grain look for the fence) and I have no clue what it's supposed to cost! The site I found has 6' x 8' panels for $160, plus about $30 each for the posts. Is this reasonable?
Re: Fencing?
I have no idea what vinyl fencing is supposed to run. When we put in our wood fence we paid $30/post (for the actual post and for it to be drilled and cemented into the ground). We didn't buy pre-made panels we just bought all the wood and made the rest of the fence ourselves.
$160 for panel seems like alot to me. I know we didn't pay nearly that amount for wood.
Is vinyl the typical material used for fencing in SK?
We don't have to paint or stain our fence. So there is no maintenance involved. You have to use pressure treated wood, some people in my neighbourhood didn't and their fences are rotting.
Will you be cost sharing with your neighbours?
We're the first house to be built in the area. I would like to cost share with neighbours, but who knows when they'll start building! Plus, I wanted to be able to have the same fence all the way around - being that we have side neighbours, and back 2 different lots. What are the chances I could get all 5 groups to agree on one fence?
Can I ask what type of wood you used for your fence? I am just not a big fan of the look of "natural" wood! lol
When we put ours in there was 5 houses doing it
Just make sure that you put it on your property since you will be paying the full cost for it (and not the property line).
We just used standard fence wood. It is what is used in ON the most and what everyone in our neighbourhood has (some have stained theirs a dark colour but it really stands out). We don't like the look of a lot of wood so we just put landscaping up to break it up a bit.
There are some pics of it here from the last few summers when we were doing work (pre-landscaping). Don't mind our dead grass....the previous owners did not look after it.
