Playa Del Carmen

Did anyone go to an AI here for their honeymoon?  My in-laws are taking us on vacation there next week and I'm looking for some opinions on the area.  Still not sure which resort we'll be at.  I'm also interested to know of any excursions you did and pros/cons.  Thanks!

  • We went to Secrets Capri....was about 15 min by taxi from downtown Playa.

All I have to say is AWESOME!!!!!!

Forgot to add...we did Tulum.  Xel Ha is apparently a big deal , but a long day (8 hours I think)

  • We stayed at Moon Palace, which is technically in Cancun, but it's near Playa Del Carmen.

We LOVE LOVE LOVEd it.  Since we were at a palace resort, we got a lot of choices of free excursions.  Don't know what you can do with whatever resort you're at, but here's what we did.

-Mayan Ruins at Chichen-Itza.  It's one of the wonders of the world, so DH insisted we went.  And it was interesting, and our tour guide was so funny!  But it really was an all day event, because it's like a 3 hour bus ride.  And, if you go, don't buy any souveniers until you get into Chichen Itza.....we stopped at a flea market and got totally had - spent $60 on stuff that would've cost us $5 inside the walls of Chichen Itza.

-Wet 'N Wild waterpark.  It's a waterpark, which you can do here.  But they had an AWESOME swimming with the dolphins option.  You got to spend an hour swimming with trained dolphins.  Some of the cuter pics in my bio.  I think the regular price is $125 a person, but we got it half off.  SO worth it.

    -Zip lining.  DO IT.

We didn't do any more excursions, since we wanted to spend some time relaxing at the resort, and doing the sailing/parasailing/jetskiing/etc offered from the Moon Palace.

    Good luck!

  • We stayed at the Azul Sensatori in Riviera Maya (20 minutes from Cancun airport and 20 minutes from Playa).  Just opened in November and it's fabulous.

We did a half day zipline/snorkel with lunch.  It was through Selvetica and awesome!
