work issues

I hate this.

My stomach has been in knots since early this week. A situation happened at work that I felt didn't need mgmnt attn. A coworker was out of line & has been for quite some time. Well, on top of being rude & unprofessional, Friday was a mess. He doesn't work fridays (w/the new work schedule) but  I had numerous customers call & complain about bad service from the same employee.

So now the thought of having to take this to my mgr has been upsetting me. I can't stop thinking about it & hope I don't cross the line. My mgr is wonderful so I know he knows I don't complain for no good reason. I just don't like having to do this. I think what upsets me most, he might lose his job over this. Not that I should avoid the situation due to that. He's horrible at his job & people skills I just hate to get involved.

Thanks for letting me vent.

  • I'm sorry you are having a rough time.  It sounds like you know what you need to do, sometimes it's just hard to do the right thing.  GL!

  • That's so true! Back in Cali I knew when people were getting fired (the termination paperwork would go through me) & I would get the same feeling. Not that I know for a fact that this guy will get fired but I would be surprised if he wasn't. Almost every call on Friday was a complaint. I do not need to hear complaints all day long & they don't need a reason to complain.
  • I've been in similar situations and not complained and in the end it still got back to management. The person was ultimately let go and after the person was gone I told my manager about my experiences and she was unhappy that I didnt tell her earlier bc the situation could have been dealt with sooner.

    What I've learned is a lot of times other people and managers are more aware than we think so letting them know will just be further confirmation for them. I know its tough but I think you should talk to your manager. It's sucks that someone might lose their job but ultimately that their fault and not yours for telling management.

  • Brandy, I know it really sucks to be put in that situation but from what you've told me...this guy had it coming anyway. If he valued his job he would try and improve his work.

    Doing the right thing is hard sometimes but you know what you are doing is best for everyone. 

  • I'm sorry you're dealing with such a crummy situation :( But it sounds like you know what you need to do- even though it isn't easy, it definitely sounds like it has to be done to help improve customer service and keep you from losing your sanity! Good luck!

  • That is a really crappy situation to be and I dont blame you for feeling the way you do. Just know that whatever happens to this guy is due to the things he did and has nothing to do with you.

  • That totally sucks. I totally know what you mean. I work in the HR section that deals with all the bad crap and firings are the worst. Honestly though I think if he's recieving that many complaints, you have to say something to your manager. Just tell them what happened and let then deal with making whatever decision they this is best.
