I am trying to decide what is the best way to arrange the closet in the baby's room. Currently it just has a rod with a shelf above it (standard closet). The only other storage we will have is a dresser.
What did you do with the closet in your nursery? How much stuff do you actually hang in a baby's closet? Is it more beneficial to have shelves or hangers in the closet?
Thanks!
Re: Nursery closet questions
Because we are hoping to move, we haven't redone the closets. Multiple rods in the closet are definitely best. DD actually has 2 dressers - but one is filled with receiving blankets, extra crib sheets, old bottles (the small ones from when she was wee) and some random items (like a bunch of extra towels/washcloths/receiving blankets) we haven't yet needed or opened.
the other dresser I keep some of her keepsake stuff, I have one drawer with socks. One drawer has her onesies (undershirt kind - the rest are in her closet) One drawer has bibs and burp clothes.
I plan in our next home (if we can ever get out of this one) is to have multiple rods in the closet - I find the closet way better for organizing clothes/seeing what she has.
This is our plan... I saw a nice configuration at Solutions on the weekend that was really reasonable and we have been looking at the runbbermaid closet systems as well.
Our closet was already divided and had shelves, just in one area it was a longer hanging area [meant for dresses?] I purchased at wal-mart this weekend a hanging 'cubicle'.
It hangs on the pole so no assembly! then it drops down into two large cubes. They are also very deep & high and are made up of a drop-cloth material in baige $14.97 I was very happy!
I'd say about a foot & 1/2 cube x2 - I'm using that for now for bibs and some onsies. We will later on get a dresser so this is more for "Family show-off-ing". LOL
We started out with the same closet as you. We just added a single shelf to the bottom and then bought 2 of those cloth hanging cubicle thingys from IKEA (I small, I large). He does have a dresser, but that will also be the changing table and the drawers will mostly carry diapers and changing stuff.
So far, so good!
We have a huge storage issue in both kids rooms, the rooms are a decent size but there isn't a lot of usable wall space for dressers etc. For Joshua, he has the bigger room, he has an armoir style dresser and his closet has a hanging shelf in it where I have stored his bigger sized clothing and I hang all of his sweaters, and his laundry basket is below that. His new bed is a captain style bed and it has three drawers underneath that store all of his sheets and blankets.
Abby's room is smaller and with the change table, and glider there wasn't enough usable wall space for a dresser so for now we are using a dresser that we already had an I have put it in the closet, it takes up less than half of the space. and the rest I will use for hanging dresses and sweaters. I also got some under the bed storage containers to store her sheets and they fit nicely underneath the crib, this is where all of her sheets and blankets are stored. I am going to be making some baskets to go in the change table to hold receiving blankets and towels.
We're lucky that the set up of this closet was well divided. I will be putting all the 'everyday' onsies, socks, undershirts etc in a dresser later on.
