Recommendations for ring cleaning, dipping

I am in desperate need of getting my ring cleaned, inspected and re-dipped.  My jeweler has since retired and I need to find a new place.   I would prefer some place in Queens, but Manhattan would be okay as long as it is convenient to the subway.  Would be great if they could do it while I waited, rather than having to drop off and pick up another day.  Recommendations?

  • I haven't used anybody here in FoHi but a friend of mine did. She went to Ch?teau first and didn't like them. They told her that the setting were loose and wanted to fix it for her, she brought the ring in for a second opinion before spending $$$ and really liked Lorilil  on 71st Ave right by the subway station. I bought a watch for my husband at Lorilil and they were really nice, not pushy at all. I've bought a few small things at Ch?teau and didn't like them, they just seemed too pushy and when they realized I wasn't in there to buy a big purchase they lost interest in me.

In Manhattan we bought the engagement ring and our wedding rings from Albert's on 47th street. I have had them do some minor jewelry repairs for me, too. DH's friend used to work for them years ago as a courier. It is run by a small family, Albert is the father and his wife (mostly) works the front.

If you go to Albert's you may need to call them first, in the summer they don't always leave the steam machine on to clean the rings. It is a very small shop and the heat from the cleaning machine competes with the airconditioning. But if they know you are coming in they will heat up the machine for you in advance.
