Do i try to fight this?

I got a manicure on Tues, at the same place i have been going to in Midtown. Never had a problem! I check my bank account online yesterday (as i do everyday) and i see that the nail salon is trying to charge me twice! They're both pending payments, so i call my bank's 1-800 # and talk to a very nice young woman who is able to cancel one of the payments. Yay!

I check my bank account this morning and i see that the one $26 payment went thru and now there's *another* pending payment for the same place for the same amount! WTF?! I call my bank's 1-800 # again and get a young man this time. I tell him the problem and it seems to take him longer to 'research' what's going on. And then he tells me that he can't cancel the pending payment without the salon's 'approval code'. I *again* explain what happened yesterday with the nice young woman i talked to and he says that he sees no record of anything being cancelled from yesterday!!  WTF?! He says i can do a conference call with the salon so he can get the code and then it can get cancelled.

Here's my problem, and i really don't want to offend anyone... the young lady i talked to yesterday and the guy i talked to today sound Indian. The salon i go to is run by Asian's and i don't really think that English is a first language there. So i'm not sure that a lot is going to get understood. Tongue Tied

WWYD?

Re: Do i try to fight this?

  • Hell yeah I'd try to fight it.  At the salon try to talk to manager, they should at least speak english.

If you wait it out til it's not pending, can the bank undo it then?  GL! (and make sure get a confirmation/transaction # from your bank this time)

  • I would fight it, although it sounds like a Seinfeld episode in progress!  Maybe you can get Mr. Costanza to translate for you!

  • I would do a Print Screen of your account  and take it to the nail salon and tell them what happen and they have two choices, 1 return the money or the next time I come in do not charge me.
  • Yeah, i can wait for the payment to go thru and then file a claim, but then the bank would cancel my debit card and issue me another one!! Grr... I think i'm going to stop by the salon during my break and see what i can do. Tongue Tied

This is what I was going to suggest. Also, keep monitoring your bank and make sure the charges don't keep occuring. You may need to cancel that debit card anyway.

  • It has happen to me about 3 times and most of the times the bank would not let it go thru because it was for the same amt, time, and date!

so you may want to call them back.

  • While the staff who do the manicures/pedicures, etc. may not speak English, I can assure you that the manager/owner would almost have to.  That's who you should approach about this & I'm sure that if you're pleasant about this, they would rather fix it than lose your business.
  • I would wait until the charge clears first. I had the same issue with a debit pmt that was made twice. It was obvious and then cleared up by their claims dept once I filed a complaint.
  • sometimes our pending charges show up twice or as one in credit, one in the debit, but once it clears and is not pending it is always the correct amount. I would wait until it clears and then if you have duplicate charge, either try to resolve with the salon first (by printing statement). If you did get charged twice, they should either refund you or give you a complimentary service. If that doesnt work, then go through your bank and fight the charge that way.

    good luck!
