The "environment."
cloth pads are along the same lines as cloth diapers. Less crap going into landfills, plus a smaller carbon footprint int he creation of the items. Much like diapers, menstrual pads use all kinds of nasty chemicals and materials to create a hyper-absorbent material that will work for the worst days of AF. These are typically not as absorbent, but you buy, say, 10-15 of them, and wash them, and you're golden.
I don't use these, b/c frankly I think I might throw up if I was washing blood out of fabric every month, but I can understand the purpose behind them.
