Bloodwork Question

I have to get some more blood taken, and I don't want to do it at the clinic at my Dr's office, as they only have chairs. I want to find somewhere that has beds, so I can be lying down. I fainted and was sick last time. I think (hope) that if I'm lying down things might be better.

Problem is I have no clue where to go to have it done that might have beds.

I'm guessing a hospital would. Does anyone know if you can just walk into a hospital and have them take the blood for you?

Or does anyone have any other ideas of where to go that has beds?

Re: Bloodwork Question

  • A lab that also does heart monitors, etc., would have beds. My Mom used to be a lab tech, and I remember showing up once with a requisition that required a shocking number of vials be taken. Her friend who was on duty that day (who'd remembered my fainting stories) insisted I lie down, and she took me to the room where they set up heart monitors.
  • I have had probably a bajillion bloodtests (give or take a few) and have not seen a lab with beds. Mind you, I haven't been in the areas where they do things other than take blood.

I would just warn them that you are prone to fainting. I know there have been places that have larger chairs that look like they could recline. I'm sure they will let you take your time, maybe bring some juice with you? They don't want you in any more distress than you need to be anyway.

  • PS - this time I've had all my prenatal bloods done at a hospital, and they don't have beds. But the private lab I've otherwise gone to, does.

Is the clinic in your Dr's office or affiliated?  Maybe ask if they could do it in an exam room.
  • I had mine done at the hospital and they laid me in a bed.  I didn't have an option for a chair.

  • The clinic is in the same building as the dr's office, but it's run by different ppl. Last time I asked for a bed (after I fainted and they still had more blood to take), and they said no they didn't have any.

I will keep on my search to find another place! I just think it's lame I need more blood taken anyway, they got some 6 weeks ago, would these pregnancy horemones really have changed things that much? Everything was fine 6 weeks ago...

  • Would the doctor know of any labs with beds? I'm sure they don't want a fainting situation on their hands with a pregnant lady!

  • oh gosh.. could you call a lab and find out if they can suggest one with beds?
  • Can you wheel in one of those BYO beds?  Stick out tongue
