Mike is terrible - TERRIBLE - at spelling and grammar. I swear, he must have skipped every day of elementary school spelling tests. He told me a story about how he had to design a sign for the HS spelling bee and spelled it "Spelling Bea" w/o understanding why no one would hang it up. He says things like "good mourning" "wensday" "enuph"...trust me, I can go on and on. And the weirdest thing is, he's the smartest person I know!
Do you guys know of any adult level classes or something that would teach things like spelling and grammar? He's had to take a couple of English classes for his degree, but I wound up editing all his papers for him (and explaining why I thought he should change things)...I don't think that helped him any. I'm just worried about him making a bad impression as he moves further along in school and a career.
Re: Adult spelling classes?
That actually might be a good idea...I'm sure we have tons of them here.
And I just realized how mean I sound.
I really do mean this in the nicest way possible...if anything, I find the misspellings a little entertaining, but I'm thinking a future employer wouldn't laugh over it.

I understand completely. Spellcheck only goes so far. If he's spelling things correctly but using them in the wrong manner, it's not going to catch it.
You are only trying to help and have his best interests at heart. I personally am anal about spelling.
