shower locations?

So, a friend of mine was originally to have my baby shower at her new house. That was until she heard the amount of people being invited and realized they didn't have enough room. I told her, no problem. I'd come up with a place. Well i called the place I had really wanted, Pemberly tea shoppe in Lancaster. They have the room, but aren't open Sundays, not even for a party. So now I'm kinda stuck trying to figure out a place. There are around 50 people invited. it has to be Sunday 10/11. I'm looking for a small intimate location. I don't really want a restaurant. I have a place I can have it, we just need to supply our own food. Do you know any small gathing places? There is anotehr tea room, I know would do it, but ti's in Hellam and I know people wouldn't go "all the way" to Hellam. It's the whole issue of "crossing the river" for some stupid reason. I keep thinking there is some places in Lancaster or Columbia that I'm forgetting about.

Any ideas?

Re: shower locations?

  • What about this place in Lancaster...

    Sugarplums and Tea

    403 Bank Barn Lane
    Lancaster, PA
    717-394-9166

    or

Royal-tea Garden Tea Room and Gifts

    19 N. Mulberry Street
    Lancaster, PA
    717-701-2111

(this one isn't open Sundays but they say they take reservations for parties of 6 or more for any day or time)

  • There is Cameron Estates in Mount Joy.  Neat old house and a couple rooms to pick from and they do the cooking.  My mom threw my bridal shower there, and they even invented a little afternoon type tea thing for me because it wasn't on their menu.

I looked at the Cameron Estates for my wedding reception and it was GORGEOUS!! The only reason we didn't book it was that it was too far from our ceremony location.   Otherwise we totally would have.  The grounds are gorgeous as well, if you are interested in some great photo ops!

  • Jen: I have considered Sugar Plums and Tea. The issue with there is the layout, not really conducive for a shower and I'm not real impressed with their food. The one in Lancaster isn't a tea room per se. They sell teas and accessories. but thanks for the thoughtsBig Smile

Cameron Estates: While I love the idea, I'm going to assume, after having stayed there and also had dinner there, that the price is way over what people hosting the shower are going to be willing to spend. Especially since we have about 50 people invited.

  • Have you checked Pheasant Run B&B?
  • Look into the Iris Club in Lancaster. We had the PAWS Mother's Day Tea Fundraiser there and it is really pretty.

ETA: They let you choose your own caterer. Or you could also prepare your own. The kitchen is included and since she was planning to have it at her house anyway, that could be a big money saver. Don't know for sure what their costs are though.

  • Pheasant Run was another option, but they've been booked. I had even called the beginning of the year for another funtion with them and had a hard time getting a date.

Jen:The Iris Club, aren't they a rather large venue? I know I had also tried to contact them before and they never retuned my calls. Do you know who did the catering/tea part for PAWS?
