What a joke

Let me just say that I think my contractor is a f-ing moron. His level of incompetence has often left me speachless. I don't believe a word he says...ever. It's now laughable when he says things will get done...cause I know they won't. As a matter of fact, what he says carries so little credability with me that never once, with *all* of the different possession dates, have I even bothered to cancel my cable! lol

Anyhoodles, to no one's surprise, we will not be taking possession of the house on Friday. Is it not finished? Oh no! He forgot to book an inspection necessary to get an occupancy permit! Nice. So, the house will sit, finished, until Wednesday, when we are legally allowed to move in. What a douchbag!

What a frustrating process it's been for you.  Do you have a new home warranty program that will compensate you for the delays and if so, have the delays been long enough for you to qualify?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed for next Wednesday!

  • Ugh, what an ordeal. At least it is almost over!
  • That's ridiculous.  At least the end is in sight!
  • I'm not sure we really have a case for any kind of compensation for the delay(s). If anything, it has cost the contractor more money, not us. As we have a fixed price, and are only being upcharged for additions and upgrades, there really isn't any way to have us pay more.

Hopefully, this will all be over next week :) On the bright side, we have always retained ownership of the house and lot, so no legal hoops to jump through - once we get an occupancy permit, it's all ours!

That's not the kind of compensation I'm talking about.  In Ontario, there is a new home warranty program and if your builder delays your closing past a certain point, you are compensated.  There is a certain amount per day, with receipts (if you had to stay in a hotel or rent an apartment).  But there is also a per diem that new home buyers are entitled to without having to show any receipts for any additional expenses.  Last time I checked, I think it was around $60 per day.

Looks like SK does have a warranty program, but not sure what it entails. http://www.nhwp.org/index.html

Well that's certainly something to look into! Thanks :)

  • I can't believe you haven't punched him in the sac yet.

How disappointing! I'm sorry that it keeps getting pushed back for you. That's torture :(
