random Power Lines question

Would power lines near your home bother you??

I want to look at a house for sale that looks beautiful in its pics and has a FREAKING POOL in the backyard, but my husband has talked to like 10 different people (family, friends) who have told him it's a terrible idea due to possible unknown medical complications due to living near power lines, and re-sale issues.

Any opinions?

Re: random Power Lines question

  • I wouldn't want power lines near my house....are they visible?
  • I have thoughts, but we should talk on e-mail.
  • How close are you talking?

If they are close, they definitely affect resale, and might affect health.  My boss has some by his house and they had some guy come over and do a study on them and the master bedroom is the only room in the house "affected" by them.  I guess it increases their odds for getting cancer or something.

  • the house we lived in a couple of moves ago was directly underneath the power lines.  i was always paranoid about earthquakes and having them topple onto our heads.

i'm sure there are other, bigger reasons to worry about this, though.

  • I once looked at a townhouse that was near a set of power lines (the huge tower types). When I realized that I could actually hear the crackling and buzzing from them while standing outside I became a little concerned. There were other reasons I didn't seriously consider buying that place, but the power lines were definitely a factor.

  • don't think it's worth it, resale alone would drive me insane.

  • My mother's thoughts on power lines have always made me paranoid. I haven't really done any research into it though, so I'm not sure if it's warranted or not. But I know a lot of other people have issues with them too.
  • Based off of my extended family's experience, personally I'd pass.

  • So, to summarize, none of you would risk cancer for a pool?  Sigh.
  • I'm confused. Are these powerlines different then the ones on streets with older homes?

Well what exactly do you mean by power lines? Just the normal street lining type as Mrs.Brock said or a massive intersection of power lines forming in your backyard?

How is this possible?  There are rules and regulations mandating that the area underneath and surrounding power lines must be clear, so that the power company has access at all times.
