just curious...electric bill cost?

I'm very curious b/c I lurk on the money message board and everyones electric bills seem SOO cheap!!  We are now on budget billing with our electric bill and pay $194...we live in a bungalow with a basment and walk up attic but live primarly on the first floor.  We keep our AC at 76 during the day and 74 at night....what does everyone else pay?

I can't figure out how some of these poster on the money board pay under $120 a month for electric.  I just also say that we have an electric stove and water heater so I'm sure that makes a difference.  Our gas bill is $71 a month (also budget billing)  this time a year we are normally paying around $7 for gas and in the mid to high $200 for electric if we weren't on budget billing

If you don't mind posting what you pay I'd love to see if we are good or if we need to get something checked out

TIA

Re: just curious...electric bill cost?

  • Since I just got the bill for June and it's sitting on the desk...last month it was $19.95 for gas and $113.05 for electric.  And that is REALLY low for us.  It has to be because of the AC being broken.  (Stove is elec, hot water heater is gas.)
  • Last month was odd because there weren't too many hot days. I'm also anal about not putting on the A/C until it's unbearable. We got our elec. bill in the mail yesterday, and it was $129. We have a ranch, no basement. We don't have gas, but have oil for heating so everything else is electric - cooking, hot water, etc. Honestly, though, I think our bills stay low because we just replaced every window and both outside doors.
  • Our's was around $150 this month. We've got a 2 story house and our washer/dryer/stove/hot water heater are all gas. My gas bill was around $50. Both seemed pretty cheap to me this month. I did notice my electric bill went down when I unplugged all of the unused appliances, lights, etc. around the house unless we were using them.

(Guess I should have added that we have a 2 story townhouse, no basement or attic.)

  • $121.00 for electric.  No gas at all for my house.
  • I guess I'm not completely off yet but we are still a little high...I know our hot water heater is set higher then it should be and sucks up a lot of our bill.  I check on the electric companies website and they give you a breakdown of where it all goes.....I guess we should turn it down some but it's so nice to ALWAYS have got water :)
  • Our June bill was $120. We have a 3 level townhome, but did not have our AC on much in June. We have mostly gas (dryer, stove). I'm assuming for July we'll be around $200 b/c we've had our AC on most of the time. During the day I have it at 74 since I'm home, then at night we put it on 70. if we're not home we put it up to 78-80.
  • Our electric bill(on budget) is $182.00 We have a rancher with a full basement and attic. I feel like ours is high too~seeing that yours is around ours, makes me feel a little better! ugggh~everything is so expensive anymore!
  • Bill due in June was...

    Electric- 95.52

    Gas- 17.14

We have a 3 bedroom, two story, end unit townhouse with an attic, but no basement. We have an electric stove, but gas water heater and dryer (I think!). This was a relieving low bill for us after a rough winter. We'll see what July brings using MUCH more air conditioning since we are home more often and it's hotter outside.

  • We have a rancher and propane gas.  Our gas bill is pretty much non-existent right now, since we haven't had a fill up since early May and our electric is $120.  We live on the water and our house stays relatively cool from the breeze, so we use window unit air and they will begin to creep up in our bill, but we are never home.  Literally, never.
  • ok, holy hell ours is high. last month i think it was 130 or 160 and that was super low for us. in july & aug when we crank the AC to 73 at night 78 during the day it can go up to as much as 250-280. we have a rancher with attic. but the sun hits our house all day long and by about 7 at night it's still pretty warm in there.
  • As mentioned in a pp, it's a good idea to  unplug all charging devices when not in use - laptop chargers, cell phone chargers. Even when they're not charging your phone, they use a lot of electricity.

And Kristin, it is s good idea to turn down your hot water heater. You'll still get plenty of hot water (and quickly!), especially during the summer. These changes have made a difference in our energy usage.

  • Thanks girls!!!  I'm gonna turn the water heater down and try all the other little things...I'm curious what kind of difference it makes
