Got horrible news yesterday

My pg friend had a dr appointment yesterday to go over the results of her triple tests. They came back abnormal for Trisomy 18. She had an amnio that confirmed that her baby is not developing normally. His brain is not fully developed (which it should be by now...5.5 months), his heart is not working properly, and his limbs are curled. It is her first baby and he has a very low chance of survival. If he is born alive, he will live at the most one year.

I was devastated, and I cannot imagine what she is going through. She is incredibly strong, though, because of her religious faith. She still managed to meet up with me and some other friends for lunch yesterday after her appointment and was playing with our babies. I don't know how she did it. I couldn't have.

  • OMG...that's horrible...I'm so sorry for your friend!  I KNOW I wouldn't be able to go out to lunch with friends after getting news like that!

I had an inconclusive result on my Trisomy 18 test and was a wreck!  I scheduled the amnio for as soon as I could and THANK GOD the results came back as normal...It was a scary couple of weeks with a lot of "what if" discussions between C and me...

I know. I think she needed something to keep her occupied because her dh is a truck driver and he's in NJ right now. Maybe she didn't want to go home and be alone.

  • This is so sad.  I'll be praying for their family.
  • I'm so sorry. I'll be praying that she stays strong. It must have been so hard being around the babies, but maybe it was what she needed.
