Thank you ideas?

A friend of ours came over last night to help DH re-route some cables for our potential media room. It took about 3 hours, he drove at least 30 minutes out of his way (he lives in Burlington, we're in TO), he crawled around a stuffy, hot attic, and he has a 2 month old baby at home.

The good news is now we have cable in our future media room, which was the first step in moving the TV from the living room to the media room, and now we'll be able to paint the living room/dining room, etc etc!

We really want to do something to say "thank you" (in addition to saying it!!) any good ideas?? He (and his wife) are such nice and helpful people, even though it was a crappy job to help with. He is a very positive guy and showed DH lots of stuff so now he could figure out how to do a similar job in the future.

In a way, that's what being friends is all about, so I wouldn't worry about doing anything too grand.  What about baking him some cookies or inviting them over for a nice dinner?

I'm sure whatever it is that you decide, he'll be very touched.

I know when we did the massive bake off of cookies and lottery tickets for the neighbours who kept our driveway clean all winter, they were shocked.

  • You can invite them for a nice dinner and movie when you have it set up.

A gift card to a restaurant in their area they either love or might not normally try (if they have kids offer to drive down and babysit so they can go alone)

    Case of beer

Gift card to Best Buy or Future Shop

  • I love inviting people for dinner as a thank you.

definitely planning on this one.. originally we were going to have the couple over for lunch on Sunday and he would help Sunday afternoon, but then Saturday night their baby was crabby and my friend needed her sleep on Sunday!! But the guy happily volunteered to come later in the week, how nice of him!!!

They feel it is their "turn" to have us over, because the last couple times we got together was at our house.... So if we are going over there soon we will bring a case of beer, and some extra treats or something... more than the usual amount for being dinner guests ;) dinner & movie at our house is a great idea, when the media room is set up, but we're notoriously slow at getting things done in the house and it will be awhile yet before the big screen TV is the price we want to pay for it (we'll have our 30" Sony Trinitron in there for awhile before the flat screen!)

  • Gift cards.  Gas?  Starbucks?  Movie theatre?  Home Depot?
