UGH: little kiddos are germy

I woke up Thursday with a cold. Bought Zicam fast melts and some generic brand dayquil and some halls to ease my sore throat. drank lots of fluids. Since I started work at the day care I wash my hands several times a day. We sanitize the changing table after each diaper change; wash the tables with a bleach solution after each meal, snack or messy craft activity, and sanitize any toys that wind up in their mouths, and still, I wound up with a cold.?

AND to top it all off, this afternoon my eye started to itch. Thankfully it was at the end of the day, because right after the last kid left, I looked in the mirror and realized, I HAVE PINK EYE! ugh! I wasn't able to get to the doc tonight, but first thing tomorrow I am heading to on call so I can get some eye drops. I can't return to work until I've been on the drops for at least 24 hours... I never touch my eye directly, but I have been sneezed on, spat on, drooled on, and otherwise in contact with germs. Hopefully this is just my body reacting to being around all these germs and once I get over it I won't get sick again. I haven't felt this crappy in a long time!

Anyway, I just wanted to vent to you all. I'm sure I'll be fine. But it sucks that im sick on the weekend!!!!.?

  • Ew! I'm sorry you feel bad, that stinks! Hopefully you'll build up your immune system and you won't get sick very often. I got sick when i first started workin' in the dr office- now i hardly ever get sick :::knock on wood:::-- people are constantly asking us how we don't get sick- i think by being around it alot your immune system get "immune" to it... G/L & i hope you start feelin better soon!!

  • kiddos are super germy!!!  But I think you will start to get immune to it.  My mom was a teacher for 30 years and as many times as she had kids with all sorts of ailments she was pretty much immune to everything, probably even lice!! haha j/j but yeah usually the first year or so is the worst and then you get used to it!! I hope you feel better soon Jenny!!! :)
  • Yes they are! I stayed home with my daughter until she was a year old...I worked in the evenings but she didnt go to daycare until then and she was sick for about a year...it was crazy. Now she gets the normal cold and nasty nose every once in a while. Also when I started working in doctors offices I got sick all the time until I built up my system. I hope when I start teaching I wont get sick since I have been exposed but I doubt it!

  • thanks ladies!

I got eye drops and my eye is no longer pink. (I have to stay on the drops for a week tho).

As for my cold, it seems to be getting better. I just have to keep reminding myself to wash my hands almost every 5 minutes in that room!

And I have started to take Echinacea as well as drinking green tea each morning which I hope will help to boost my immune system as well.
