**LISA**

Ok, this may be a stupid question but how do you know what your heart rate should be? What is a conversational run? I was just looking at some of the plans they have for training for a half and one of them starts off like this:

WEEK 1
MON: 35 min moderate
TUE: 30-40 min XT
WED: 40 min easy
THU: 30-40 min XT
FRI: Rest
SAT: 6 miles conversational
SUN: Rest

So I'm assuming it just means Monday run 35 minutes moderately, tuesday 30-40 min. cross train, wednesday 40 min. easy run, thursday 30-40 cross train, friday off, saturday 6 miles conversational (WHAT IS THIS??) Do you do the cross training? just curious!!

Re: **LISA**

  • I'm not really well versed in heart rates, but I think if you google it, you can find out what a healthy heart rate and max is for someone in your age, gender, weight category. I'm thinking that the highest heart rate you want to sustain during your training is 80% of your max heart rate and that's on a hard day. But.... I would google or ask more about heart rates on H&F.

As for cross training, I either just count farm chores as cross training or I like to bike with DH or maybe just walk the dog. If you enjoy league volleyball, softball, weight lifting or anything like that it's great too!

6 miles conversational = running at a pace where you can carry on a conversation. It might sound crazy, but I will actually say things out loud to my self when I a doing an LSD (long, slow distance) to see if I am going to fast. If you are too out of breath to talk, you are going TOO fast. I sometimes feel like a snail, but it's supposed to keep you from getting injured and overtraining by doing your long runs slowly.

Hope this helps! Sorry I've been out most of the day:)

  • P.S. I think once you get a heart rate monitor, you can also look up plans to calculate your max and 80% max, 60% max etc based on how high your heart rate goes after a certain amount of exercise. As you continue to get in better shape, your heart rate will obviously elevate less after physical activity. Sometimes, your heart rate after say 20 minutes of easy running will be very different from someone of the same age, height, weight and gender. I'm just remembering these things from a far away PE class so I thought I would ramble on about them. Again, HTH:)

  • Thank you for the links Lisa!!! I did the heart rate calculator and it just asked for my age and did it from there.  I found this really cool band at nike running:

    http://store.nike.com/index.jsp?promoID=usrun_RI_21Jul09&country=US&lang_locale=en_US&l=shop,women_running#l=shop,pdp,ctr-inline/cid-1/pid-275945/pgid-275946

I would love to get that!! That plus a heart rate monitor and I'd be all set :)

OH!! HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO YOUR DH!!! Did you get the book finished of your boudoir photos for him??

  • Megan... I did get the book finished. I ordered it last Friday and paid extra to overnight it. With processing, I didn't think it would make it in time. BUT... yesterday when I got the mail it had some. ( I made it through snapfish and thought it turned out well.)

DH liked it, but I think he was a bit taken aback. He really didn't look at it very long, so I get the feeling he may go through it more when I'm not around. I think he's never really heard of girls doing boudoir (none of my friends or family around this area ever have) so maybe he just needs to just used to the idea. Luckily, he didn't ask or say anything about how much money I spent on the pictures and session. He did ask where I got them done, and I told him it was a female photog who took them:) Overall, it went well and I think he will grow to appreciate it more... We had a good night for his birthdayWink
