So far this morning...

1) I opened the mail to discover we're getting audited.  No surprise there with the amount of medical expenses we claimed.  I have all my receipts.  The only pain in the butt will be travel expenses and getting letters from my dr to prove a) that I did travel on the days I said (as the IVF receipts are dated with when I paid) and b) that there is no clinic closer to my house.  Technically there is, but they aren't clinics that he is affiliated with and to do the actual IVF retrieval and transfer there I would have had to start at square one with a new dr.

2) I'm fairly certain my neighbour got a good look at my undies as I very ungracefully climbed in the back of the van to search for an umbrella (while bent over) and then got out in a matter that makes Paris Hilton look lady-like.  And of course my dress is a bit shorter than normal due to the growing belly.  My reaction, "Oh, $hit!  That was so not, lady-like"  I've never seen him laugh so hard.

3) My office building is attached to a seniors apartment and they all congregate here to leave on bus trips.  Bus trips are pretty much the prom of the senior community, so the outfits are pretty fantastic.  Today I saw a 70+ woman in white 3/4 length leggins, high tops,  a silver bubble skirt, a white T, and pink half length sweatshirt with faux fur trim that matched her faux blond bob.  AMAZING!!!

Re: So far this morning...

  • 1) good luck with the audit!! what a pain!

    2) sounds like something I would do! glad you just laughed it off!!

    3) that would be a sight to see! I am picturing an old lady dressed to go into space for some reason.

  • Re 2: OMG! I did the exact same thing today!  I was wearing a skirt, stupidly, and it was quite windy today.  I was getting groceries out of the driver's car and my skirt (shorter because of the pregnancy) flew up around my belly.  Luckily, there weren't any workers around but I'm pretty sure our security guard got a decent glimpse of my underwear.  Sigh.
  • 1)  You likely don't need a letter from your doctor re. the travel expenses.  I've never had a client provide one.  It should be pretty obvious that you live in city a, and the expenses are in city b on a certain date.  Just make sure it is clear when you calculate your mileage it is from city a to city b, and write a little letter explaining the situation.  If you write one today or first thing tomorrow, I can read it over for you  (I leave for vacation tomorrow afternoon).  Or, if you wait until I get back on August 2 I can review it then.   Let me know if you want my email.  I wouldn't worry about the closer centre either - I've never had anyone really questioned on that either.  Don't mention anything about the closer centre unless they ask first.

     2)  LOL

    3)  ROFLMAO

  • 1) that sucks. bah.

    2) at least you didn't show your Britney

    3) AWESOME. So f'n awesome. Take pictures with your cellphone if you can!

  • I was audited once and worried when I got the letter.  It turned out to so not be a big deal like I was expecting.  I sent them my receipts (I had e-filed) and they sent back a note saying it was closed.
  • I got audited last year for my moving expenses. I just pulled everything together and faxed it all off to them (all 30+pages). Then it took a few months to find out their assessment. But other than that it was good.
  • Well, #1 is pretty lame, but # 2 and 3 gave me a good laugh! Sounds like a pretty good morning in my books!
  • #3 sure made me smile. It reminded me of my great grandmother's favourite poem "When I am Old, I shall wear Purple." It's sweet if you haven't read it:)
