Is this just my husband....
or does this go across the board? DH is home during the day now and I mentioned that the house needed to be cleaned and the toliets were in need of a good scrub. So on Monday he scrubs the toliet and vacuums. Thats it. I complimented him on his cleaning skills and thank him but am kinda shocked that's all he did considering the house needed to be dusted, the tubs scrubed, floors done ect ect and he had the time to do it. Then on Tuesday I say something like "the rest of the house could really use a scrub, the sinks are getting all toothpastey". So what does he do?! He cleans the sink yesterday- just the bowl, not the counter top, not the faucet, just the bowl of the sink! As of yesterday evening, I've come to the realization that if I want anything house wise to be done I have to say it word for word. Now his projects are always done with attention to every single detail, so I guess its just the house cleaning.

Re: Is this just my husband....
That's how mine is. He likes when I leave a list so he can check it off and when his list is done he can do what he wants. However, I have to be very detailed on the list. This is what each task would look like on the list:
Clean entry (vac steps, dust baseboards and railings using Murphy's Wood Cleaner, sweep landing w/ broom and then wet jet)
Hellooo???? That's not a permanent fixture.
Um, yeah. I stopped asking DH to clean a long time ago because he doesn't do it right!
This is soooo my husband! Like you got the tv so you'd have a new trash can...love it. Gift w/purchase.
Yup! Mine grew up in a family where he was not expected to do anything and his mom did all the cleaning. (she even made his bed if he didn't do it!!)The girls got cleaning chores when they were older, he got the job of cutting the grass. I am having a very hard time re-training him. He doesn't seem to understand that if he leaves his dirty clothes, wet towels, and everything else on the bathroom floor that they get all musty. He doesn't understand that throwing a wet towel over the hall banister really isn't hanging it up and will ruin the finish on the wood. He doesn't understand that leaving his dirty dishes/crubms/open bag of snacks on the table will lead to the dogs feasting off of the table. Sigh. I know I'd be p-oed by a nit-picky, anal retentive chore list but I think it needs to be done for some husbands.
PS- the guys I know who are all great at cleaning w/o instruction are those who have been in the military. I guess boot camp cured them.
I have done the same thing with our bathroom and it gets me no where. The strange part is that if I have stack of mail on the dinning room table he freaks out. Won't put his dishes in the dishwasher. Won't get the mail, but don't dare leave in in a stack on the table (even if it is his mail). So annoying.
Nope, not just you. He had some time off, and on my way to work I mentioned that the laundry was piling up. So he did *his* laundry, and left mine. Considering that I normally do 100% of the laundry, I was super ticked. For two months after, if I accidentally washed a sock of his, it went back into his dirty pile. He's since gotten the message.

Yep. Jesse will do anything I ASK him to do..but I always have to ask. For example, if we're going out for the day...you would think he could pack/check the diaper bag by now, and change Cole's diaper. Nope, doesn't think about it unless I ask. I've just accepted it.
My husband drives me to distraction with his lack of cleaning skills. When he makes enchiladas for dinner, he dirties 3 pans and a glass dish; gets sauce on the stove, floor, walls, and cabinets; and leaves whatever ground beef he doesn't use sitting on the stove to rot. He has no problem leaving this overnight (or longer)--at which point the cats are on the counter eating ground beef and then puking on the carpet (which I have to clean because it grosses him out). I seriously think men's brains are mis-wired when it comes to cleanliness.
The real killer for us is that he kept his house spotless while we were dating--it wasn't till after I moved in that he let his true slob nature show. So, I know that he knows HOW to clean, but he's given up now and decided it's my job (the mess and stink truly don't bother him, which I just don't understand!)
The Fluffy Cat says... "Boxes are the best toys ever invented!"
Ahh, yes, pet puke. DH won't touch that either (or poop). One of the dogs puked last month and he was so freaked out that he ran out of the room. I asked him if that was how he'd react if it was his child and he said he could deal-but I doubt it. Knowing that I'll be stuck with poopie diapers and baby spit up sort of cures my baby itch. I already have a big baby at home.
Oh, and dh isn't good with home repairs either, it's not just your husband, pp.
We are the exact oposite on this one. I can't look at it, smell it, hear it. It doesn't matter who's it is. H got sick recently in our bedroom recently. As he was in the bathroom I was attempting to clean it up and I just puked right on top of it. It is like a big comedy. I am taking the sheets off and puking right on top of them. it was horrible. We ended up throwing our comforter out becuase i couldn't stand it.
