Can't believe I forgot to tell you!!!

So we went to my cousin's wedding in Connecticut this past weekend. It was beautiful, there are pics on my Facebook if we are FB friends. But there was one part that was SO bizarre, I have to share.?

At the reception, the pastor came and did a blessing, then the Best Man did his toast. After that, they invited the Father of the Bride up to say something. He started talking about his friend, the owner of the place where the reception was being held, who just lost his battle with cancer (which was a bit insensitive, as the Father of the Groom is my uncle who just found out about a month ago that he has stage 4?esophageal??cancer). He goes on to tell us how 10 years ago, his friend got together with some buddies and bought a horse for $75k....yes, he told us the amount. And then the horse went on to win the Derby, and was one race short of winning the Triple Crown. And then we watched the video of the horse running and winning the Derby. And then he sat down.?

No relation to the wedding. No tie in to his daughter. Nothing. Just his dead friend and the expensive horse. ?

Re: Can't believe I forgot to tell you!!!

  • Wow, just a bit out of left field.  Sounds like someone doesn't know how to be sensitive or when to shut up.  It also would have been nice if he actually talked about what everyone was there for that day, his daughter's marriage!
  • r-a-n-d-O-m-    we didn't let anyone speak at our wedding.. the best man & maid of honor..other then that no one was gettin ahold of that mic... people are wack!

  • That is strange...and for sure out of context. Hopefully the bride and groom weren't too shocked and it didn't upset their day. My dad did speak for awhile (probably a good 10 minutes) at our wedding. But, he told the story of the day my DH asked my parents if he could "pop the question."

Yeah, we're a bit old-fashioned, but DH asked my parents before he asked me:)

Anyhow, my Dad loves to talk too, but at least he kept it related to the wedding though. Speaking of weddings, have you guys seen the U Tube video of the dancing bride and groom? (It took place right here in Minnesota, about an hour and a half away from me actually.) Who knew we were so much fun up North!

  • My dad is really shy, he didn't want to say anything, so we didn't make him.

  • That is so bizarre and out of left field!  Bet it caused a lot of buzz for the rest of the night.
