Help! Baseball Caps and Ideas

Before moving to TX I worked for the top collegiate headwear company.  When I was there I was constantly pushing them to move into fashion or expand their lines.  For three years I've tried to work with them on some things and always hit dead ends.  I decided Friday to approach the other owner and immediately got an email back wanting to meet with me.  So...I'm getting my ideas ready and I wanted to do some research on what people want/like regarding baseball caps.

Most caps are geared towards men of course and I'm trying to get them to expand their womens collection as well as the childrens line.  So, what I need from you all is your ideas or comments regarding womens and childrens hats.

What do YOU like in a baseball cap?  For example I like them to be unstructured and flexible like they have been well worn/washed.  Adjustable to pull my hair through and fun designs would be a plus.

For kids, is there a great enough selection out there or would you like to see more?  What about fashion type styles (not sports related)?

Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Help! Baseball Caps and Ideas

  • My biggest complaint with hats is that they're never small enough. I have a small head and it's hard to find hats that fit me without pushing my ears down! That's really the only thing I can think of. Good luck! That's exciting :)
  • Thanks RJ.   Have you ever tried youth adjustable caps?   The company I worked for has youth girls adjustable in the same prints as womens.  Not many stores carry the womens and youths though.  If you want I can try to pick you up one when I'm there.
  • I want something plain but not dorky...so many of the plain hats just look stupid and weird.  And I want it adjustable...but not with the plastic adjustable thing, I hate those.
  • -adjustable, but with the cloth adjuster, not the plastic kind. also, long too long on the sides, if that makes sense. i have a few that i guess are bigger than others and they make my ears curve down b/c they are too long on the sides. i hate that.

-worn looking (curved bill already, perhaps even "scuffed" a bit) to look like it isn't brand new, even though it is

-various colors (I often see women's hats are the same version of guys, but in pink- just because i'm a chick doesn't mean i always wear pink). i like wearing DH"s hats b/c they are better looking- so the guys hats just in a smaller, adjustable size.

-not plastic mesh in the back- bleech
