Am I the only one . .

who has no desire at all to entertain?  For the past 7 years, I owned a condo which basically made it impossible to entertain or even have a BBQ.  I sold the condo back in March.  DH and I bought a single home that has a huge deck as well as a nice yard.  I can honestly say I have no desire to entertain.  I taught myself to cook, and I'm ok at it.  The thought of cooking for other people makes me cringe.

Re: Am I the only one . .

  • I don't necessarily LIKE to entertain, but I like having people over.  But, when we have a big party, it has to be outside on our patio.  Our house is tiny and I hate cleaning up the house after an indoor party, so we usually only throw larger parties when it's warm/nice out.  We've never had more than parents/siblings over for nice dinners, so I really have no experience with formal dinner parties.  We don't even have enough chairs in our house to throw a dinner party for more than four extra people...  Confused
  • We love to have friends over to cook out by the pool. It's expensive though, because we always provide the food for everyone and it adds up quickly! We need to start letting people bring some food over and dividing it up.
  • I like baking for other people and I like people coming over, but I'm not into cooking for our friends. Maybe later, but not now.
  • I love having people over, but we just moved to the area and don't really have that many friends I would consider inviting over yet. Soon, hopefully:)

  • I LOVE to entertain!  DH always jokes about how many platters I have, but I seriously get into setting up a nice party for our friends.  I also love to cook, so that helps.  Unfortunately, it takes time and money, neither of which I have much of right now :(

  • I love to entertain!  It helps that I love to cook and bake, though.  In fact, I'm baking a bunch of stuff for church tomorrow and next weekend I'm making someone's wedding cake. :) Unfortunately we live in a tiny apartment, so we can't do much entertaining. :(
  • You're not the only one.  Despite the other ladies who replied with "I love it, wheeeee!", I'm with you -- playing hostess is not my forte.  We've owned our nice 106 year old house for over a year now, and we've had very few get-togethers.  The last one was a potluck pool party with about a dozen people in attendance, and we mostly stayed outside.  If it had been an indoor party, it would've been far more stressful.  But as it was, it was very casual, I didn't need to scrub the house too much beforehand, picking up afterward was easy, and people brought different kinds of food which was lovely.  And the only thing I "cooked" were pitchers of lemonade and sangria!

Shex - that's my idea of entertaining - lemonade and sangria!

  • I would like to but until my house is in order, have no desire to. I am very selective with who I invite over though for dinners and such, though, so it should tend to be more informal.  I really want to host Thanksgiving, though.
  • so far i am lucky to have the perfect excuse not to have people over, my house is under construction.  really after all the wedding planning and dealing with people and family i need a break.. next year we will have a BBQ but this first year is about us, especially since we did not live together before the wedding..
