Replacing carpeting

Anyone have local company recommendations for replacing carpeting?

Re: Replacing carpeting

  • I used Garner's Carpet in Lancaster to re-do my townhouse carpeting when I bought it.  I didn't think they did that great of a job (they didn't stretch it, so I paid Certified Carpet to come in and stretch the carpeting after 4 years).

On another note, I used Adair's Brunnerville Carpet Shop (located just north of Lititz).  They did my bathroom floor and did an excellent job.  www.adairscarpet.com.  They came recommended to me by a friend.  I plan on using them next year to replace the carpeting in the house we just bought 4 months ago.

  • I at first would have recommended Lowes, they did ours, the price was very good and the carpet is great, the only problem is after 3 years it is starting to ripple in places, so I don't think they stretched it enough or something, we are beginning to be very disappointed, so I cannot recommend them.

  • Hey Christina,

I don't exactly have a recommendation for you, but I'll share my experience.

We thought about getting new carpet in the nursery before Brynne was born. We basically drove up and down the Carlisle Pike because they have a number of carpet stores within a few mile stretch. We visited Essis and Sons, Carpet Mart and another one. I found that a lot of the stores were having sales/specials and seemed to be competing with one another. It might be worth it to call or stop in the stores.

Sorry I couldn't be more helpful, but good luck with your search!

  • I haven't used them for carpeting but all of my other flooring has been done by Essis and Sons.  I've always worked with Jackie...she's great!

  • Carpet Barn in New Cumberland.  They did our basement and did a great job and were much cheaper than the other places around especially Essis.  For the same carpet...CB was $700 cheaper!
  • One place I would not recommend is Carpet Mart.  The prices were reasonable but the installation was horrible.  They messed up our order and stapled down an area rug over our nice hardwood floors.  I had to do a lot of complaining before they fixed the floors and gave us some money off.

  • Thanks for the suggestions.  I'm hoping that cleaning them will help enough but we'll see.
