Freakin CHP!

I just need to vent because I'm still so ticked off about this!

Last night when H and I were driving back from the Pantages, H decided to get into the carpool lane. He didnt cross the double yellow and went in when there was an opening so imagine our surprise when a cop gets up behind us and turns on his lights. H thought he was getting pulled over for speeding but he wasnt even going that fast to justify it. When the cop came up to the car after we pulled over he tells H that he crossed the double yellow and that there are no carpool lane openings for a few exits so there is no way he had crossed into the carpool lane legally when he pulled him over. He then asks why H's insurance paperwork and license are under different addresses and H realized he had never changed his address after he moved in with me. So after waiting in the car for 20 min, the cop comes back and gives H a ticket for crossing a double yellow and having the old address on his license!

After he left us, we went back up the freeway to check where we got into the carpool lane and sure enough there was the opening that H went through. I just dont get it!  Why pull someone over for doing absolutely nothing wrong and pretend like he did by claiming there were no carpool openings he could have used!! H is definitely going to fight it but seriously such a PITA!

  • UGH!

    CHP sucks!!!

They gave me a ticket the day before my wedding... with my veil and wedding dress in the front seat. I was on the way to the rehearsal and late, totally speeding, but still! BLEH~!

    GL fighting it!!!

  • man that sucks!! I would definitely fight it.
  • Oh that SUCKS! I would definitely fight it. Sorry Noosh!
  • Oh that sucks! I would take pictures of the carpool lane entrance and fight that!

One time my H was pulled over by a San Bernardino cop for "drunk driving"- he hadn't had a drink and was leaving work at the time.  She put on her lights while he was stopped at a red light- when it changed to green he pulled to the side of the road.  After calling for backup, putting him through a bunch of tests, etc... she and her partner determined he wasn't drunk, and gave him a ticket for running a red light instead. He was stopped at the light when she put on her lights. We paid it because it was her word versus hers and we couldn't afford for him to lose.

Don't worry about tomorrow. After all, today is the tomorrow that you worried about yesterday. Take each day as it comes...one at a time. Midnight Baking Adventures Blog
  • It's close to the end of the month and he needs to write some more tickets. Take it to court.

My dad said exactly that...and that the state has no money so they are probably encouraging cops to be more aggressive with the ticket writing. What I dont get is wouldnt you just wait for someone to actually do something wrong? Esp midnight on a sat, you know there will be some drunk drivers out! Why give someone who did nothing wrong the ticket! Although I guess it could have been towards the end of his shift and he just wanted to be done with the night.

H's definitely fighting it and plans to go back up there and take pics.

Cops don't have quotas. That's just a myth.

Sorry that happened to you guys Noush. GL fighting it. I agree with pp. Take a pic. I think that will really help. My H fought Brea PD once and won. It can be done.

  • Defintiely fight it. If you really did something wrong, then you deserve to be ticketed. But this is just silly.  I agree with going back and taking pictures. That's an easy way to prove that he didn't cross the double yellow.
  • What kills me is that I can't count how many times a day I see someone do something illegal on the freeway and there is no cop to be seen. How many real instances did he miss wasting that 20 min writing your H the ticket?

I'm sorry. Definitly take pics and fight it. GL!
