college classes for fun?

Can one just take college classes for fun? There is a CCCC campus right by my house and I was thinking of taking some of the art classes just to learn more about watercolor or drawing and get some better technique. Can you just take a class by its self? Or does anyone know of any other places that I might take a class like this at? Thanks for the help.

Re: college classes for fun?

  • SMU offers classes like this. I think it is called "continued learning classes" and you don't pay anywhere near tuition price.

I imagine that CCCC would have classes like that.

  • I can't think of any reason why you couldn't.  I'm thinking about doing that with some photography classes at TCCC.
  • I know at DCCC you can. Go talk to an advisor in the department you're interested in and tell them what you want to do. They'll advise whether it will be better to just audit the classes and not get a grade, or if it would be better to just enroll and take a few classes even if it's not part of a degree plan.

  • Way back when I worked p/t at a community college, we had "continuing education" classes that were for people who just wanted to take classes for fun.

  • You can also check with local rec centers.  Carrollton offers a ton of "adult education" classes that you can take.

  • I have taken classes at CCCCD, they have an entire catalog of classes that are specifically for "Continuing Education" then I believe you can take any classes out of the credit catalog as non-credit.

It is tons of fun, good luck!!
