OK, so where do I live???

If "Central Pennsylvania" generally refers to Harrisburg and surrounding areas, where do I live if I actually live pretty darn near the center of the state???

What would you call this area?

Oh, and originally being from the eastern half of the state, I can't bring myself to say I'm from Western Pennsylvania.  I drink soda, not pop!

Re: OK, so where do I live???

  • You're in Central PA.  Harrisburg, Mechanicsburg, York, etc. is South Central PA IMO.

    I agree...

Although if you look at it, most people talk about eastern PA, and then Western PA, and that goes from north to south in the state. I think they consider Central PA to go from North to south as well and incorporate everything in there.

  • IMO, I would call the central part of the state "Central PA", this would be State College, Bellefonte,Altoona, and Lewistown areas. I think once you get near Harrisburg its becoming Eastern PA (although there are areas taht are much more eastern) and much further then Altoona and it becomes Western PA.
  • I agree with summerbride!  I feel like Eastern PA is Philly and suburbs, Western PA is Pittsburgh and suburbs, Central PA is the state college area and the Harrisburg/Lancaster/West Shore/etc area is more like south central PA.  Although with that classification, northern PA gets kind of left out...

That's how I see it, but I didn't grow up here, so take it with a grain of salt!
