Mamas with convertibles--car seats that is ;)

I'm on the lookout for one. Can you suggest the one that you use and how you like it? I don't really need one right now but I want to prep for the next stage--right now I just have a Chicco carrier. tia

Re: Mamas with convertibles--car seats that is ;)

  • I have a Britax Marathon that I love...it's good for up to 60 pounds and has a great safety rating.  The issue is that it was kinda expensive.  I've seen deals on diapers.com and if you cruise the bump boards you can find people posting deals on them when they pop up.

I put Sarah in it pretty early.  I had the Chicco infant seat in the center of the backseat of my Explorer and taking the whole thing out and putting it back in twice a day (for daycare) was KILLING my back.

She's still rear facing in it - I think it's good up to 30 pounds rear-facing.  I have a feeling we'll need to switch her sooner rather than later (like we wanted) - her legs are moving up the back seat and she cries the entire time she's in it...probably just too uncomfortable for her.

  • I bought a couple Recaro Comos on woot.com a couple months ago (pre-BFP, took a gamble, lol) for $99 each.  They are regularly $250, so they were a steal.  According to Baby Bargains they get good reviews. I still check woot.com every day to see if they have them again.  :)

I got the black and tan colors.

  • we have the britax marathon for one car and the evenflo triumph for the other.

I have to give a huge rave to the evenflo. We got into an accident when Isabel was 11mths. We got hit by an expedition and we hit an explorer. We were in my parents highlander which got totaled. The bottom dropped out of the car, from the back seat I was able to reach out the rear window it was bad. But Isabel was 100% fine. Her carseat which was in the middle even stopped my parents seat from going too far back.

  • Lori-It is heavy and R is only 2 months.  I can't even imagine the daycare struggle down the road.

Kim-Wow. You got a really good deal. I'm going ot have to check out that website.

Thanks for the suggestions ladies. I feel like I'm kinda behind with this--if that makes sense. My mom keeps asking me what I want her to buy to keep in her car and it got me thinking thatI need to look into it myself.

  • Omg Kat!  3 SUVs?!  I'm glad that everyone made it out alive.  That is crazy. How scary.  That is definitely a psa for the Evenflo.  I'll have to look into that too--thanks!

This is the one I was thinking about getting down the road. It is still early for us too. I have the Snugride 32 infant carrier and DD is getting heavy already for me to lug it back and forth and put in our suburban. Many of my friends also recommended the Britax Marathon. We are also thinking we will move to a convertible sooner rather than later which we had wanted as well.

and the car in front of us hit a tundra. It was bad. I'm still amazed that none of us were seriously hurt. My mom and dad got airbag burn, and my mom got some major bruising. I sprained my thumb and knee and had some back pain and DH got some seat belt burn

  • We have a Britax Diplomat for the sedan and a Recaro Signo for the Suv. ?Love them both - especially the compactness of the Britax. ?The Recaro is like a throne!

C has the Evenflo Triumph in his car.  It has just as good safety ratings as the Britax but is a bit cheaper but it only goes up to 50 pounds.

The cheaper price is why we used it as our secondary seat, for DH's car and my parents and the britax was in my car. But since we had J the weight limit didn't matter since we had to put him in the convertible and Isabel got a brand new seat,http://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=3190397

one that will take  her up to 100lbs. She loves the fact that it's pink with a cup holder.

    ?

I don't understand car seat manufacturers touting this 100lb limit ... DH's parents were so excited when they bought a car seat for Campbell that would go up to 100lbs. ?I would hope my child isn't 100lbs and still in a car seat!!!

    this isn't a car seat. It's a 3 in 1 booster seat. At 100lbs it's just a simple one piece booster seat.

Why would your child still be in a booster seat at 100 lbs? I didn't hit 100lbs until my freshman year of high school!!

I definitely hit 100lbs before than. But i'm pretty sure my kids will be too tall for a booster seat way before they hit 100lbs. Maybe it's for a really short really chunky kid?
