I'm still annoyed..

So yesterday Hubs and I went to go hang out with the IL's.  Hubs B day is this month so Hubs mom asked "M, what do you want for your B day this year?"

My SIL quickly chimes in like someone asked her: "I think A should give M a baby for his B day."

 (she's currently preggers BTW)

Of course all eyes (MIL, FIL, BIL, H, little SIL's and nephew's) eyes go to me...

My eyes widened, my jaw hit the floor, and I couldn't belive she went there.

All I could answer was "No thanks!" and shot her a look.

And this morning I'm still kicking myself for not having a better response to that. I so wanted a better response to make her know it is NOT ok to make those kinds of comments.

What should I have said? What would you have said?

Re: I'm still annoyed..

  • "not everyone is you, SIL."

what did the hubs say?  i'd be super annoyed, too.  mind yer bidness, beeyatch.

  • I think he felt weird about the comment too and just stared at me for my response.

It was an akward turtle moment for sho.

  • btw, i would have taken her aside later on and told her that she was out of line.

  • OOOOH That would make me mad too! I never have good comebacks. Never. The best thing I can think of right now is something along the lines of "of course you want us to have a kid too - misery loves company"

Damn that would have been a good one!

(Disclaimer: not that being pregnant = misery for you mommies out there- I'm just saying it would have made for a good response to her out of line comment)

  • My response would have been, "Fvck you."

    But that's just me.

  • I actually think you did pretty well considering, I love the "No thanks!" response. So polite :) Mine probably would have been, "Yeah, not so much," in that situation.

I'm just so surprised people say stuff like that. How are they to know you guys aren't struggling with fertility issues? So insensitive.

  • "No, I'd like everyone in our family to have different birthdays."
  • That is some F*cking B_llish! I have no idea what I would have said because I am kind of a loose cannon and say random crap at inappropriate times...BUT I do know that your sex life/body/fertility is none of their damn business! Damn IL's!!!

  • I'm a tad disappointed that M didn't step up with a good quip.

I get the feeling that Mr. Mo would've said something like, "Actually, I'd rather get some new golf clubs."

    Best answer ever.

Many of you know that I would kill to get KU, but someone like that deserves a comeback like that!

    I love mr. monkey.

fitty - it's probably best you didn't blow up in front of all of your ILs, but I'd still pull SIL aside next time and give her a piece of my mind.

  • I don't get how some people can be so rude to say something like this.  It really does baffle me.
  • That type of question deserves a throat punch, spawning or not.

Me too yo- I think we were both stunned. It's like she was cued or something.

  • How about replying with 'That is none of your business'.

Whatever response you come up with, remember it.  Unfortunately, this may not be the first time that this will happen again.

  • My response would have been "FRO."

After 2 rounds of IVF & 2 rounds of FET, we were blessed with identical twin girls!
