BF moms

quick questions.....re: nursing bras

1) where did you buys yours? and would you reccomend the brand you got?

2) When did you buy your bra? is it ok to buy before delivery?  and if so does it fit different afterward?  I just don't want to be spending tons of money trying to find some comfortable to wear...

Thanks girls!

Re: BF moms

  • I bought one at Motherhood that I hated with a strong passion. I bought one at Nordstrom that was very comfortable but wasn't very nice looking. Then I bought 2 at JCPenny. They are Playtex brand. They are pretty comfortable and I can wear them with a tank top and that is a big plus for me.

I bought most of mine before delievery. They didn't change size too much. Just make sure you don't buy underwire. That's bad for your supply.

  • quick questions.....re: nursing bras

    1) where did you buys yours? I bought mine at Nordstrom.  They carry larger size nursing bras and that is what I needed plus they'll size you for   free and I wanted to make sure I was getting the right size since it changed. They are pricey but still a bit stylish http://shop.nordstrom.com/S/2983342?Category=&Search=True&SearchType=keywordsearch&keyword=nursing+in+All+Categories&origin=searchresults  and would you reccomend the brand you got? Yes.  Oh, and mine is underwire.  There is no way I could go without it.  I was worried this would effect my supply but it hasn't.

    2) When did you buy your bra? I started getting them during the 2nd trimester. is it ok to buy before delivery? Yep  and if so does it fit different afterward?  Maybe but the material of the bra I got was stretchy so it was forgiving. I just don't want to be spending tons of money trying to find some comfortable to wear...

    Thanks girls! Gl

  • 1) I bought mine from Target and Walmart.  I kind of consider them throw away bras, they aren't that pretty, just functional.  I'm a sahm...so my girls don't need to look perfect all the time!  I like the sleep bra's I bought at walmart, they're comfy, and cheap enough that you can buy a bunch.

    2) I bought a sleep bra and an underwire before delivery (I can't go w/o underwire)  If you buy before hand, I wouldn't buy too many.  The underwire one I bought in my pre pregnancy size I'm now spilling out of.  I've definitely gone up a size.

  • 1. I got mine at Target and yes, I would recommend them. The only thing I don't like about a couple of them is that they don't have much in terms of lining - I prefer a thicker bra myself. This has lead to, us, showing a bit too much if you know what I mean. Comfy though.

    2. I bought a couple before delivery, just a cup size bigger. I really don't think I needed them bigger, but they're stretchy so it works.

  • I got a couple from Target (the non-wired) and they are super comfy during the day. I also have the Medela Comfort Line bra which I love! I bought mine before delivery and a little bigger than my pre-pg size and I'm glad I did. A word of caution, avoid the underwires, they have caused me to get clogged a couple of times.

Oh, and for the lining "problem" that Becki mentioned, nursing pads help. I use the Medela brand.

  • BTW, Shannon, you definitely want to have a nursing bra in your hospital bag!
  • I got an underwire (nice looking) @ Walmart for $10 before delivery.

I just made sure that the band around my body was loose, to the wire doesn't hurt any ducts there.

My LC said that underwire ins't the devil, as long as when you take the bra foo, there isn't any "lines" on your skin, like where it's too tight.

Nursing bra, I used a sports bra and cut holes in (should have cut slits, but didn;t know that)

FWIW- my boobs look fuller, but didn't go up a cup size.

I also got nursing tanks from Walmart and they were the best in the hospital! Get outta that gown and into real clothes.

  • I have several from Target. I love their sleep bras, they are way comfy. I have a couple of other ones from Target that I also like. I have a bravado one that I love (I wear that one when I go out). I also live in the nursing tanks from Target, online they have different colors, I have one of every color. I didn't get an underwire one because I have been having clogged ducts so I didn't want to chance it.
  • Also, I just bought some washable nursing pads and those are wonderful!! I was using the disposable nursing pads (I liked the medela ones and I also used the lansinoh ones too) everyday and night. It was getting pricey to keep buying those and they bunched up a lot. I was so glad when I got the washable ones. The are a little thick and show through the thinner bras, but great with the nursing tanks and the padded nursing bra I have. I have these ones:

and I am going to get another box, Less expensive than the disposable ones in the long run and green.

  • Like Sher I wore Target nursing tanks.  I wore them around the house our first few weeks home.  They only come in S-2x so they are a little harder to size. For me, I had to go with one of the larger sizes they carry( even though in shirts I wear a medium)....and I was fine.
