So this morning I receive an email on my phone from best friend's email addy. I open up the email and there is a link enclosed to outlook something or other. I click on the link and nothing happens other than it takes me to a blank page. Now mind you I did this while on my phone. I close the email down and carry about my business. I now notice that none of my emails are going to my phone any longer.
I come to work this morning and am checking emails. I decide to open up her email at work thinking that my phone couldn't access the link or something. I click on the link and craziness starts happening. It launches a page that has crazy virus notification and crap. I had to manually turn the computer off.
Okay, so now what do I do?? What was that email?
Re: outlook virus?? computer geeks please come in...
No idea. Just wanted to say that sucks and sorry. Hope someone has an intelligent answer!
Depending on how much you want to get into it, this is what my IT nerd of a hubby says you should do. If you have an IT dept, you might want to just call them, though.
You need to reboot the machine and the second it starts to come back up, you have to keep hitting F8 continuously over and over and over again. Eventually it will bring you to a Windows advanced start up options screen, it will be all black with white text. Select "safe mode with networking". Then, go out onto the web and download a program called Microsoft Security Essentials. (Here's a link http://tinyurl.com/lhazoc.) Choose whatever version of Windows you're running from the list on the right hand side. Once it's finished installing, it will run updates and then start a full system scan, which could take hours to complete. Then just remove & clean anything it finds.
Well the good news is my phone came away unscathed. Once I booted up my work computer it seemed to run without a hitch. I am hoping that my IT department is taking care of it since I am too lazy to call them and tell them myself.
On a side note, my best friend didn't send the email but I did notice that alot of the email addys were her FB friends which makes me think that the email originated from FB maybe. Just thought I'd let you know!!
