instead of stopping at BK or mcd's for a breakfast sandwich (which i LOVE), i've started bringing cereal to work in a round ziploc container and milk in one of the bean's old bottles, and i have a cute spoon i bought at target in my drawer.
i'm making my own iced coffee at home...including homemade vanilla syrup.
i made homemade oreos yesterday and am going to do my own brioche buns for dinner tonight.
i cleaned the house with a vinegar solution that i made with some lavender vanilla oil i had left over from my hospital bag (from when i had the bean).
i'm using drugstore make-up now for less than half the cost of my beloved laura mercier stuff.
the worst part of all this is that i'm, like, all proud of myself for it. i'm such a freaking dorky ass goofball.
Re: i'm turning into an MM nerd.
I am too laaaaaaaazy to be MM. I do in certain areas (bringing my lunch to work), but that's just so I can spend more in other areas (clothing, makeup, entertainment).
You have no idea how funny this is.
D!!! Grosssss.
Funny and gross how?! I don't do it with baggies from raw meat, but most other things I too. I usually stop when they're starting to wear out.
Wan - I'm proud of you! I've always wondered though, are baking treats really MM? Aren't the ingredients pretty expensive?
When we had MM happy hour, we were laughing about how extreme some Nesties were with their outrageous money-saving techniques, including washing Ziplocs.
And then somebody mumbled, "I wash plastic baggies sometimes."
And then we really couldn't stop laughing.
i can't stop laughing now at the memory of her whispered confession.
and, "winnie the pooh."
d, most ingredients aren't single-use. ?overall, i still think baking is pretty MM, especially compared to store-bought or bakery items. ?and it tastes better
?
you could be even MORE MM (and enviro-friendly) if you brought your cereal in a tupperware container - you could also just pour your milk in it and use it as your bowl.
ETA: ah, nevermind. I see you are already doing that.
Give some other funny MM examples! I like this!
Wan - ok that makes sense. I agree homebaked goods are much better than store bought packaged ones. And I'll be able to verify this again next weekend.
Thats not as bad as my MIL drying out paper towels and reusing them...she only does this with the ones that she uses to dry dishes and wipe down counters but the first time H told me, my reaction was
Dude! You called her out! At least I kept her anonymity!
why doesn't she just use a sponge or a dish cloth?
I wash out my ziplocks. Especially ones that I just used for cut up fruit or veggies...never if meat was ever stored in it. I usually only do it twice before throwing away.
I also clean with baking soda, borax and vinegar.
However, I draw the line at washing paper plates like my grammy
ack. ?i guess i was thinking about how she said she never posts and no one would know her. ?edited!
i suck.?
Mom ... is that you?
Yay for MM nerds!
:: proudly waves washed- out Ziploc baggy ::
heehee
You should be proud of yourself!! I'm totally get excited when I save money.
Oh, and yea, I'm in the wash and reuse ziploc bags crowd. Oh and we purposefully buy lunch meat in tupperware so we can reuse it later. And we've taken the full plunge into cloth diapering.
