If you could take a weekend trip close to home (preferably in October when the leaves change). Where would it be?
I would like to plan a trip for DH and I to enjoy to get away, we love the fall
Re: Poll: Weekend trip?
DH already has a "man trip" scheduled in Sept to go there

This sounds beautiful...how long of a drive is this?
The DH and I went to Chautauqua Lake for a wedding about a month ago and we both thought it'd be a GREAT place to visit in the fall. There's a beautiful lake. In addition, there are a ton of wineries to visit. We also passed some cute bed n' breakfasts.
It was about a 6 hour drive from here, so not too bad.

We plan to make a trip to SE Ohio this fall, but we'll probably be too early for the leaves. We'll stay at the place where we got engaged (www.ravenwoodcastle.com - it's a bit offbeat, but we enjoyed it). There's not much city life in that area, but there's plenty of scenery. I'd think all the state parks would be beautiful in mid October.
I went to school at OU (In Athens), and the hills out there are very pretty in the fall. And, it's only a 2-3 hour drive from Cincinnati, which is great for a weekend trip.
IMO, Gatlinburg is way too crowded--we tried that in October 2007, and it was a madhouse. (took us 2 hours to drive 10 miles, the traffic was so bad, and restaurants had 2-hour+ waits for dinner)
