?'s for those wo have lost weight & kept it off...
First congrats for losing the weight and being able to keep it off!
How much did you lose?
What methods did you use (as far as diet & exercise) to lose the weight?
How do you continue to keep it off to this day? (exercise and eating habits)
Re: ?'s for those wo have lost weight & kept it off...
This is going to sound funny considering I'm a trainer but for me...
I lost about 15 pounds within the last 10 months or so. My exercise had been pretty consistent. I'm my own worst client because I preach to them to not do the same stuff over and over but since I spend so much of my time changing everyone elses training programs I usually end up forgetting to really overhaul my own!
I started seriously training for my Pilates certification which meant at least an hour a day of Pilates (mat and reformer) and I think it was just the change my body needed. Since then I've cut back and don't do an hour a day and I have maintained the loss (give or take a few pounds here or there). I'm actually lighter now I think than I was for my wedding.
Nutrition wise...I always eat small portions so that is the same but when DH changed jobs in January which actually meant him being home for dinner it meant eating more salads before the main entree and back to lots of lean meats, etc. Plus we've really cut back on dining out. We used to go at least once a week and for the most part now we maybe go once every couple weeks and we grill a lot.
How much did you lose? I lost 30 pounds for my wedding in 2007, and another 10 after that, totalling 40 pounds
What methods did you use (as far as diet & exercise) to lose the weight? In October of 2006 I joined a gym (a YMCA) and started working with a trainer once every 6 weeks to get me some routines and learn about the equipment. I focused on just exercise education for awhile, and then once I was comfortable with that, I started looking at my food intake -- cutting the amount I ate and replacing junk foods with healthier foods.
How do you continue to keep it off to this day? (exercise and eating habits) I'm still a 4-5x a week gym-er, with active days on the weekend (not exercise, per se, but walking the dog, biking with DH, yoga, etc). I'd love to lose another 15 pounds, but I think I've reached that nutrition equiibrium that for me to lose more weight, I'd probably have to hang up my measuring cups and spoons. I love to cook, and I'm adamant and honest about the fact that I don't love to cook "health food" all the time. That being said, I still track my calories (either on paper or on thedailyplate.com) and try to fill my plate with more veggies, fruits, whole grains, etc, than junk.
It all sounds pretty generic, but that's what I do.
How much did you lose?: I've lost about 35 pounds. I have about 5 pounds to go until my goal weight. Keep in mind - this has been a s-l-o-w process, I've been working on this for about 15 months.
What methods did you use (as far as diet & exercise) to lose the weight? I joined Weight Watchers and dropped nearly half the weight just doing that. I started exercising regularly about 8 months ago. I hit the gym 3 times a week and I have recently started to train myself to run...we'll see how that pans out. I have also started lifting weights - just to help "tone".
How do you continue to keep it off to this day? (exercise and eating habits): This is the difficult part! I really try to watch my portion sizes and continue to weigh & measure my food before I eat it. That was a huge part of why I was fat - I wasn't eating so many BAD things, I was just eating entirely too much. I continue to go to gym and exercise at least 3 times a week.
The thing to remember is that this is a lifestyle change - that's the key to keeping the weight off and is exactly why I went back to Weight Watchers. I feel that they teach you good eating habits and how to stay with these habits for the rest of your life. And yes, there will be days where you falter - but you just have to remember that the next day is a new day and start over.
Good Luck to you!!!
1. I lost 30 pounds or so
2. I used weight watchers which worked wonders!
3. Normally I'd have kept it off, but I'm pregnant, haha, however, I only weigh about 10 pounds more than I was when I first started weight watchers, after having Eli, and I'm 35 weeks pregnant now! I can't wait to get back on it once this baby is born. I also walked probably around 40-60 min a day as my exercise, that plus chasing Eli around.
