donate "used" stuffed animals?

My mom brought two boxes of old stuffed animals to me. They are probably in good shape although they have been in boxes for who knows how long. I haven't opened them yet to see what kind of shape they're in.  Any ideas of a creative place to donate (hospital or battered women's shelter) rather than Goodwill? TIA

Re: donate "used" stuffed animals?

  • I think really either one would be a good choice.
  • local EMTs/firefighters sometimes collect them. i've been told that if you throw stuffed animals in the dryer on air dry with a damp washcloth it will get the dust off of them... but i haven't tried it yet.
  • If you have the space you could store them until Christmas when places do toy drives.

and I do like the idea of donating them to a hospital, the children's ward (is ward the right term?) would probably love them.

  • You should be fine to donate to a shelter.  Last time I checked (I ran several toy drives in high school), hospitals cannot accept used stuffed animals because of the potential problems with germs, etc.  It's been several years since I had that info, though, so it could have changed by now.

GL finding a place to donate! :)

  • A few years ago I gave mine to a missionary group going to Guatemala. I tell ya, the pictures of the kids and the woman telling me how some of these kids have never had a toy, I was almost bawling my eyes out when I was handing over my bags (I had like 8 lawn size trash bags).

Maybe there is something like that around you?
