Jen, here are the roofing recommendations that came from the neighborhood (I'm just going to copy and paste from the emails, because they have comments that might be helpful to you). Six people responded so their recommendations are below, separated by bold/non-bold type.

I can wholeheartedly recommend E&E Roofing.  Evan is the owner.

They replaced/repaired my fascia, and repositioned my gutters, and did it for a very reasonable price.  And, after last September's windstorm, when they were overwhelmed with requests for various repairs, because I was already a customer, they came out to straighten and replace my chimney guards, and repaired missing shingles within a couple of days.

I've used them because, when I first bought the house, Evan came out and, rather than try to rip me off, he very honestly said that my roof was fine, needed no repairs.

We used nathan seipel, Multi Trade Construction from Troy.
Phone is 248 4804.
We had original wood singles  to remove as well as two layers of asphalt shingles. He redid the whole roof. We thought his price was good.

I have used Maxim several times -  to repair wind damage and ultimately to
replace my whole roof.  After seeing Maxim at my house, two neighbors have
gotten quotes from several roofers and then committed with Maxim.

I've used Durable Slate for my slate roof several times in the past 10 years and owners before me used them, too.
1 800 666-7445 - Please tell them that I referred you if you decide on them.  There's nothing in it for me, but I did have
an slight issue once that they more than rectified.  It will remind them to do a good job for you, I believe.

When I lived on McClure, I used PWI Construction, LLC and was extremely pleased with them. Paul Wourms, the owner, fixed the roof on a double I owned that two previous companies "fixed" (and it still leaked). He offers a lifetime warranty on workmanship. You can find his ad under Roofing in the yellow pages but here is his tele number. 937-427-5558

We have had very good luck with Lance Roofing.  They have done quite a few homes in the neighborhood (that's where our recommendation came from originally).  They are professional, courteous and in our experience, offer the best price and service. Their work is guaranteed.  We just used them a few months ago and thought we needed a whole new roof.  Gary Lance, the owner, after "walking the roof" did the estimate and advised us based on the condition of the roof and the number of years we planned to own it to simply repair rather than replace (saving us thousands!).

  • Thanks!  I emailed someone to get a membership but they haven't responded yet.  I will say that one of the companies on the list is the company we're reporting to the BBB.  Oh well.

  • Go figure. It seems like it really is hit-or-miss with these people. When the people in the red house (south of me) got their roof replaced, they said the people were highly recommended. As you can see by the giant tarp that's been on their roof for the past two years, that didn't mean much!

Good luck! For membership stuff, I'd email maybe the news email address first. If you haven't heard back from them in a few days, let me know-- the guy doing membership is different from whoever did it before, so I'm not sure if he checks the emails.
