False negative?

Ok, so I was on the pill for quite a few years, but decided to come off of it in may 'cause DH and I want to start TTC this fall (thought I'd give my body a break from drugs and make sure it's out of my system). The reason i was taking the pill in the first place was because I wouldn't get my period for months at a time, so the dr. put me on the pill. Anyway, I came off the pill in May and 3 weeks later I got my period, well it's been 8 weeks since my last period and 3 negative pregnancy tests. Do you think I could still be preggers (DH and I have been taking precautions) or could my body be adjusting to not being on the pill anymore? Should I give it a little more time or just go to the dr's. now. I hate to be hasty and start running to the dr's every time I miss a period. WWYD?

Re: False negative?

  • It's probably just your body adjusting.  They say it can take up to 6 months for you to get back to normal.  I came off the pill, had two normal cycles and then one wacky long one.  It will take a while to be regular.  But it's been a really long time for you, so a trip to the dr's couldn't hurt, IMO!

  • I would wait to go to the doctor.  Like Danielle said, it can be a while before you get back to normal. Three neg tests seems like a pretty reliable result if you have been 8 weeks since your last period.  If in a couple of weeks you still don't get it, I would call and see what they suggest.
  • My body is still adjusting to being off of the pill (like 2 years later) but I am really screwed up too. ?But you should go to the doctor if you are concerned. ?It is always worth it to get checked out, just in case. ?
  • I'm with Amy, three neg tests should be a fairly reliable result. I'd give it some more time (I've never been on the pill so I'm not sure about the adjusting back to "normal"), but in the meantime you could maybe call your dr. to get some reassurance. If he/she thinks it's worth checking out then I'd go in. Good luck!
  • Normally the preggers hormone is pretty apparent in a test, I didn't even have to wait a minute when I found out I was and It was only 5 weeks when I found out. I would go to the dr just for peace of mind but i think it is just changes in your body,. My periord was spot on the first month off  the pill and then ended up pg sooner then we antisapated in the third month.
  • hey girl, it takes most people about 6 months to get back on track.  You don't really need to be concerned about AF not showing til it's been 60 days.

  • Thanks for the reassurance ladies. I think I'm gonna hold off for a little longer before I call the dr. Hopefully it will come soon. =)
