Homestead Tax Rebate

Does anyone know what's going on with this?  My friend, who lives in Deptford got his a few weeks ago and we still haven't gotten ours.

I just looked it up and some of the things I found say that they're not doing them at all.  Other websites said that if you make less than $150k, you'll get a percentage back.

Usually they're due by Sept/October and I just wanted to make sure we got ours in before the deadline if we were eligible.

Re: Homestead Tax Rebate

  • I was wondering the same thing. My parents got theirs last week and I was hoping to see ours soon.

  • We got our application one day last week.  Due to my craptastic filing system I can't seem to find it at the moment but you could file online or, I believe, over the phone and I'm pretty sure it said the rebate checks would be issued some time in the Fall.
  • I didn't get anything in the mail as of yet either.  I decided to go to the NJ website.  Apparently due to the budget issues we have if you make over 75k (gross) as a couple and are not disabled or a senior then you are not able to collect anyway.  Booooo.
  • Once again we are all being punished for being successful and making sound financial decisions up until this point.
  • I lurve crap like this.
  • I think I read that you have to make under $75k as a couple.  I *think* it may be different for seniors, but we are all out of luck being young and making decent money. :(
  • Hmmm... I did get one in the mail. But I purchased this house when I was single. I don't know much about it.
  • A quick stop at the state website tells me they mailed it to me because as a single person I'd be eligble, but as married people we are not.

The limit is $75K single or married. So I guess the wedding price tag just increased.

  • My neighbors got their application, but we haven't received one. The $75k limit explains it though. WTF - that sucks.
  • I don't see how being old or disabled entitles you to a home owners rebate more then someone who is young and not disabled.  Shouldn't it just be whoever owns a home?
  • I think that it's ridiculous that it's only $75k and under combined.  That just doesn't make any sense to me at all.  If one person makes $74k and qualifies and the other makes $74k and qualifies WTF is the difference if they're married?

I'm really not happy about this at all.  It should be all or nothing.  Either everyone gets a fair shot at a rebate or no one does.

  • We got ours last week....it's the only benefit we get with my fiancee being self employeed..b/c he writes off so much with taxes it looks like he makes a lot less then he does and I only work part time.  Of course due to all the tax write offs we couldn't take advantage of the low interest rates for our mortgage b/c now they want to see tax papers and it looks like we don't make enough...they pretty much told us we can't afford to pay $300 less on the house we already own..hmm, makes no sense
  • This is thanks to our lovely governor!!  I hope people see why not to vote for Corzine in NOV.  Seriously 75k for a couple is NOTHING in NJ!
