It kind of depends on what you're looking for. DH and I use a financial planner and she is awesome! She does a really deep dive into your spending, goals, etc. and then tells you what you should be doing with your money. She is through Ameriprise and we like her because she's not out there to sell a specific product. We pay her a retainer (which is a lot) but then we can call her about ANYTHING.
I get compensated on a base plus commission situation, so we'll call her when I get a big comission check to figure out what to do with it. She helped map out our true savings goals to meet our five year plan. (It was shocking how much we needed to save!) All in all she's awesome. Expensive. But worth every penny.
You can either use her, or find an Ameriprise agent close to you (ameripriseadvisors.com) - but look for someone who is a CFP (Certified Financial Planner). They have to go through a lot to get that, and it shows.
