For those cooks/bakers out there - is it necessary to have a food processor? I have some recipes I want to try that call for one. I dont have one, but I do have the Kitchen Aid stand mixer.
If I do need one - how many cups should I get? There are so many out there!
Re: Food Processors
If you are looking to invest in one, I would recommend the 12-cup KitchenAid with the 4-cup mini bowl attachment. I am a professional chef and I cook a lot at home and I am very happy with this processor for home use. The large bowl is great for sauces, soups, fillings, etc. and the smaller bowl is perfect for making baby foods or dips and spreads. It is a bit of an investment though so factor in your usage. You can use a traditional blender or hand-held blender for a lot of jobs.
I basically have all of the above. I have a blender, which I rarely use because I have a Magic Bullet. I have a realy small food processor (maybe a cup or 2), which I use for chopping little things like onion. And then I have a bigger food processor, which is maybe 6c that I use alot more.
I'd say if you have a blender, you can use that, but sometimes the blades won't chop things as finely as you need them. I think the food processor mixes things better too.
Thanks ladies. I have a blender and the Magic Bullet. I haven't used the Magic Bullet at all - I actually forgot I have it! I should take a look at it.
I have that small 1 cup one, too. I was looking at that Kitchen Aid 12 cup one - looks like that gets the best reviews. I'll probably hold off and see how I do with what I have.
I've got a cuisinart blender that also has a food processor attachment. I think I've used it twice. I also have the processor/shredder attachment for my KitchenAid stand mixer and it sucks. I used it to try and finely shred zucchini and all it did was mush it and put it into chunks. It was a horrible mess!
The magic bullet is good for little jobs...my sister had one and we used it for a couple of different things when she was living here.
