In your green blog, you have a section about paint.  I am just wondering if you have done any research or have any opinion on Rona's recycled paint.  We had been thinking about using it in our house to help support Rona's green initiative, but I haven't had a chance to do a lot of research on what is actually in the paint.

Re: Jen&Joe06

  • Hey there! I haven't done too much research on it but basically it involves customers bring back their paint to a Rona store and then Rona paying to have it reclaimed and repackaged so they can resell it.

My experience with recycling paint is from the automotive industry but the same principles apply. Typically the paint is filtered to remove particulates and then blended with virgin paint. So what you are buying probably won't be 100% recycled but closer to 50-80% recycled paint content. They then add pigments to make the colours that you can buy (not sure if Rona also sells it in white so you can tint it yourself at the store). The quality of the paint that you are buying won't be affected by the process and like you said it is a great way to help support Rona and their sustainability programs.

I would have no problem believing that what they are selling is recycled because their programs are closely watched by the government and other industry groups.

  • Thanks for replying!  I was wondering how they did it, so your explanation is great!
