I feel horrible

We all got the Norwalk virus this weekend. It started with my son (who, oddly enough, didn't seem bothered by it- he'd throw up all over the place without even stopping to take a break from playing) and quickly spread to my husband and I. We thought it must be food poisoning, based on the quickness of onset and the severity (in my husband's case, anyway- he got it bad). After Ethan was feeling better my husband was still ridiculously sick so we asked my parents to babysit Ethan while we took my husband to the hospital for an IV because he couldn't hold down any water at all and after 20 hours of non-stop vomiting and diarrhea he was so dehydrated.

Anyway, my whole family- my parents and three sisters- got sick within 12 hours of babysitting and they were diagnosed with Norwalk, so obviously it came from us. So not only do I feel horrible for spreading it around there, but now we have to cancel a family trip to Vancouver we were going to go on. My cousin graduated from high school in June and she wanted to have a graduation party. It had to be scheduled for tomorrow because that was the only time the whole family could get together, between everyone's vacation and work schedules. She planned this months ago and made us all swear that we'd keep our calendars free but now we're not able to go. I know my cousin is going to be really upset, and my little sisters are really upset too because they've all been dying to go see their cousins again. My youngest sister (age 5) has been asking "How many more sleeps?" for the past week.

I feel so guilty, like this is all my fault Sad

Re: I feel horrible

  • Aw that sucks. I know that when Dani got Rotavirus it spread to me pretty quickly, and I'm sure by the point it got to me, it got to others as well (friends of ours and their kids got sick too). It's totally not your fault. You had no idea - that's what's scary about viruses - they spread so quickly and have the weird incubation time with no symptoms but you're uber contagious - you just can't prevent it from spreading to some.

  • Not fun at all. I hope you guys are all starting to feel better. Don't blame yourself, these viruses are crazy and spread so easily.

That's horrible!  Try not to beat yourself up over it - there's nothing you could do.  And I'm sure they'd rather a canceled party than go through what you did on the weekend!
